 Wadtext II
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 7:00 PM
Category: General

André Majorel sent along some news on Wadtext2. This is what he had to say.
wadext2 extracts all the lumps of a wad to separate files. It does not perform any conversion on the contents of the lumps; it just dumps them byte for byte. wadext2 does with wad files what tar -x does with tar archives. It should work on all Unixen. It probably also works on DOS although no DOS binaries are provided.
This is where you can get it. André Majorel's home page

 Posted by at 7:00 PM
Category: General

Ronald from the Xontor website has sent in this news:

I'd like to announce the "THE COBRA EPISODES - VOLUME 5 : TALES OF THE COBRA". This is a DooM Legacy Release, ONLY and it will have new graphics, new sounds, new music, some dehacked patches and completely new maps. I'm currently thinking of creating ExMx style maps in this release, too. But i'm currently working on MAPxx style. Since the release of Cobra 1 - 4, i decided to work on a fifth Cobra Episode, a "LAST" Conversion of the SAGA.

But note: i'm NOT the creator of Cobra 1 - 4. Cobra 1 - 4 are on the "Cobra Utilities for DOOM & DOOM II" - CD, too. I'm searching for level designers, that are interested in creating maps for this release. This would make releasing "COBRA 5" faster than only me working on the maps. 68 maps are the aim, 3 finished, i'm working on map 4 so there are 65 to go. Please send me an E-Mail and contact me, if you're interested in creating your map(s) for the "LAST" Cobra Release (COBRA 5) since Cobra 1 - 4 in 1994! Creator's names will be displayed in a text file, to the .WAD - file.

 John Carmack's postarama
 Posted by at 7:00 PM
Category: General

John Carmack has posted another reply to a recent Slashdotarticle. The first reply he made discussed ATI's possible performance under the new Doom engine, and this one has a bit about the GeForce 3:
There are several more Q3 engine games in the works that will continue to run great on existing systems, and Doom is still a long ways off in any case, so there will be a lot more upgrades and new systems. We are aiming to have a GF3 run Doom with all features enabled at 30 fps. We expect the high end cards at the time of release to run it at 60+ fps with improved quality. This is an intentionally lower average FPS for the hardware cross section than we targeted for Q3, but still higher than we targeted Q2 and earlier games (before hardware acceleration was prevalent).
