Quake II: Lost Marine (Female Voice Actor Wanted)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:51 AM
Category: DOOM 3

Ok I was just lurking around this morning when I spotted a Doom 3 mod that I never heard of before. The mod is Quake II: Lost Marine and is being developed by Kiltron and a team of other devs.
The mod is recreating the Quake 2 experience in a whole new light through it's Single Player and Multiplayer components. Our aim is to give players a whole new Quake 2 experience and not just a remake of the original. While you may experience some gameplay from the original, most of the experiences are completely new. We have done away with linear gameplay and have given the player multiple ways to deal with situations. This is Quake 2 the way we want to see Quake 2 done within the DOOM 3 engine.
Currently they're looking for a Female voice actor to be the voice of the Lost Marine so if you're interested go give Kiltron a shout. By the way, this mod isn't a direct port of Quake II and all content will be made from scratch. This is looking to be one fine mod.

 Tower of Babel Redux 0.8
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:46 PM
Category: DOOM 3

The featured SP mod on Doom 3 Files is called Tower of Babel Redux (0.8):
What started as a simple test map for a mortal cyberdemon mod I made in an evening has somehow made its way into becoming a fully fledged map. Its layout is inspired from the original DOOM level "E2M8" yet it doesn't really look like it, nor does it play like it. Actually, the real aim was to dispel the general consensus that the Cyderdemon is a wimp as it was in vanilla DOOM 3.
It sure sounds interesting but I'm too tired now to think.

 Doom Wad Station Updates
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:37 AM
Category: DOOM Wads

Sematary sent in the news that Doom Wad Station was updated and Blue Paladin reviewed The Prison by Adam Mason. Here is a quote from that review:
You are in for an Old School thrashin' with this one. "Prison" has booby traps galore and not a whole lot of help in the form of health and ammo so you're going to bite the big one quite a few times here. Clear off your save files and start filling it up when you play this.
Also there's a Doom Tribute screensaver by VAMP that works with windows. Last up Sematary now has a wad submission page. If you do submit a wad then be sure to follow the rules...

 Doom3[CC] 2.0 Released
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:26 AM
Category: DOOM 3

The Games[CC] group who develop the Doom3[CC] mod have updated with several new features that should be helpful to hard of hearing/deaf and foreign gamers. These features include:
  • Color coded closed captions for characters and environmental sounds.
  • Support for multiple languages (english, spanish, french, german and Brazilian portuguese).
  • A visual sound based radar on the HUD.
There's also a DivX video that shows the visual sound based radar and colored closed captions if your interested. That's all on the Doom3[CC] site and by the way the mod is now at version 2.0...

 Double 2.0
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:52 AM
Category: DOOM 3

The featured SP mod on Doom 3 Files is one of those that changes a lot of the game content and in this case demons move faster, play the MP in SP mode with added monsters, new skins, zombie respawn if body not destroyed and a bunch of other stuff. So if your interested you can check out Double 2.0. By the way according to the txt file:
This mod use several Double*.pk4 files which contains specified new features. If you do not want one feature, just remove the file that contains the feature.
So if there's something you don't like you can nuke it. Sounds like a good plan.

This morning I spotted on Doom 3 Files that they posted up a new Doom Movie Shot that shows two members from the elite squad holding weapons with built-in flashlights standing in front of a cage that looks like it has chunks of flesh hanging on it. The shot is taken off of the Movie Infos site and if your German you should be able to read more.

 Faiakes RoE-Extended 2.6
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:32 AM
Category: DOOM 3

I was just poking around on Doom 3 Files and noticed one of those mods that is a combo of stuff from other mods that tweaks a lot of different things. The mod is for Resurrection Of Evil and is called Faiakes RoE-Extended (2.6) and it adds mine/flare/homing grenades, plasma railgun, new weapons skins, new monster skins, extended PDA and some other stuff. Might be worth a downgrab so have a look at that Faiakes RoE-Extended (2.6) mod jobby.

Doom 3 Deathmatch Championship At Quakecon
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:10 AM
Category: DOOM 3

Over on the id Software site they announced that NVIDIA is putting up a total of $150,000 in prize money for four tournaments, which includes a Doom 3 Deathmatch Championship.
With the first appearance of DOOM 3 at QuakeCon 2004, last year’s tournament was wide open; none of the competitors had an opportunity to practice or learn the subtleties of the game. Now, players have had a full year to hone their skills and put them to the test in a 1-on-1 battle for $50,000 in cash.
More info can be gained off the official Quakecon site and they have the press release posted right here.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:46 PM
Category: DOOM Sourceports

X-Doom sent in a linkage in an email that leads to a new site he's setting up that will feature the development of his ZXDoom engine. Here is some quote stuff from the email he sent in:
I am in full work on the construction of a new Web site at which I will put the development of my ZXDoom engine. All information necessary concerning the engine will be posted as before the end of the week. The site will looks like ZDoom.org a little, but not as much. It will be very related to ZDoom.org in the field of information. This will not change anything with my Web site already known on xdoom.newdoom.com, it will be also related to ZXDoom.com.
As of right now the new ZXDoom site has just a splash page..

 Foreverhood Update
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:08 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

I got word from Skadoomer that he's expanded the Foreverhood site. Due to my brain not working well at the moment I'm just gonna copy paste what he has to say:
Foreverhood has updated once again with a major overhaul to the site. With a newly expanded 'about' section and an encyclopedia of screenshots, I hobe to build a better understanding of what this game is about. Progress wise, its looking for beta testers to critique the may 7th build of the game so i can accurately gage what issues need addressing. With that, i can begin putting togather my final outline for finishing off this beast and giving the public something to play.
Check out Foreverhood.

 Resurrection Game Over
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:04 AM
Category: DOOM 3

Game Over Online has a review for Resurrection Of Evil. Time to quote the article it is:
And I never knew how much I missed a double-barrelled shotgun until I played RoE. In Doom 3 nothing, including the chainsaw, seemed adequate for point-blank encounters. Now you can finally blow away imps and zombies in a single shot, just as in Doom II. There are even hints of the old game in the reload sounds and animation.
Take a look at that review.

Afterglow Update On Jägermörder 02: Terra Nova
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:12 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

Last time I was on The Afterglow I was looking for some textures but today I was just nosing around and noticed that Afterglow updated with some info on Jägermörder 02: Terra Nova which he says is around 90% complete.
I was aiming to make it Boom-compatible, just as the first in the series, but currently the sidedef count is 30,282, rapidly approaching the Doom engine's limit of 32,768. Even with SEGS, I doubt it will even run with Boom after I add the final area.
Hit The Afterglow for the full story. You can also grab the previously released Jägermörder 01 : Chemical Lab while waiting for Jägermörder 02.
