SCUDD In-Development Report
There's no download or release for this item I'm going to mention. On the forums in the Editing section Dani J666 posted about a new random level generator that he's developing and it's called SCUDD. The program has been in development for around two months now and will be capable of making interesting Doom maps...My goal with SCUDD is to make it capable of doing everything a level editor is capable of, then getting it to make semi-inteligent decisions on what to do next. You can check out the topic right here about this new in-development Slige-like device..
ZenNode 1.2.1
Marc Rousseau patched ZenNode to v1.2.1 due to a bug that appears because of very large maps. Starting with this release, Zennode will no longer generate a BLOCKMAP for any map that is too big to be handled properly. Further, it will no longer crash when building the REJECT table for such a map (although, without a proper BLOCKMAP, this may be a moot point). So, if you're making maps, be sure to check the BLOCKMAP with ZenNode before you get too far along and have to move or delete large sections of your map. So once again go ahead and visit the ZenNode site if you want the new version of this nodesbuilder.
Spork Reviews Torment Trilogy
Holy smokes! Agent Spork went and updated his personal Doomed web space again! This time around the Agent went and reviewed Tormentor667's Torment and Torture series. Yeap the trilogy (I don't think it's meant to be a trilogy... I'm just calling it that) has been reviewed so go ahead and visit Doom Realm and get into the Map Reviews section to read up on this latest of Agent Spork's reviews.
ZenNode 1.2.0 Released
Marc Rousseau released a new version of his popular nodesbuilder taking ZenNode to v1.2.0 and here is the list of changes:- Changed default options for building the BSP (don't require unique sub-sectors).
- Fixed BSP code to properly create unique subsectors when requested.
- Added support for basic RMB options.
- Rewrote graph code in the REJECT builder to reduce the number of calculations required.
- Change code to use mkstemp instead of tmpnam and tempnam.
- Update code to compile & run properly on an AMD 64-bit CPU.
- Changed .WAD and level handling routines to properly handle little-endian & big-endian architectures correctly.
- Fixed 2 bugs that could cause small levels to crash the NODES builder.
- Removed debug code from ZenMain that accidentally made it into v1.1.0.
- Updated bspinfo to provide a better FOM measurement.
- Added bspdiff utility to provide extra information about a map.
- Added wadinfo utility to provide extra information about a map.
- Minor updates to the documentation.
- Added Mac OS X support.
- Added extra DEBUG and DIAGNOSTIC checks to Debug version of the BSP builder.
So go ahead and visit the ZenNode site if you want to check out the new version of this Doom editing, nodesbuilding jobby. By the way Dr. Sleep pointed out that ZenNode's major update is its implementation of RMB (Reject Map Builder) options. It now takes the place of RMB and can use most of RMBs commands. The full list of RMB options is here.

No screenshots are available right now as the brothers are being secretive about thier creation. However keep your eyes peeled around here as the levels will be released in some days' time. Sounds good to me! Before I go to work more on Vilecore II and grab a cup of coffee, have a look at this foxtrot comic that was pointed out to me.

Todd Hollenshead Talks Doom 3
HomeLan Fed posted up a new Doom 3 Interview will id Software's Todd HollensheadWe were all very excited to focus on the single player experience after the years we spent working on Quake III and Team Arena. We all still love multiplayer here, but it had been over 3 years since the entire team worked on a single player focused experience. Hiring a professional writer early on and story-boarding out the whole game worked very well for us. The hardest part was working with brand spanking new technology that works entirely differently than the way our rendering technology worked from Quake - Quake II - Quake III. The learning curve for that was steep, but it was necessary to climb it in order to create the experience DOOM 3 delivers. Check out the Interview that covers talk about Doom 3 (of course), the Doom Movie and even mentions Quake 4...very briefly that is. It's a good read for a one page jobby. Go read it!
Edge v1.28 Released
|
Category: DOOM Sourceports |
Darkknight sent us the news that the Doom Port we all know as Edge has been updated to version 1.28 and here is what Darkknight said about this release:This is our blue release - the title screen is an indicator of the version of Edge and in this case its blue. All that we've tried to achieve in this release is tidy a lot of understanding issues and get the project going again after it went into a period of quiet activity. So the focus of this new release has been bug-fixing and stability. Here is the list of the main changes in Edge 1.28:- Very basic overlay HUD.
- Edge.log file, automatically remembers startup messages.
- Removal of MP3 music support.
- Full mouselook range in GL mode.
- Better, faster sky drawing in GL mode.
- For multi-user systems: user-specific config and savegames.
- The source code is now written in C++.
- Supports MS Visual C++ (.NET 2003) and Dev C++ (MinGW).
- Many, many bug fixes (including several crash bugs).
So there you go! Head on over to the Sourceforge site and get the new Edge!

Wikipedia & Karthik
I wandered over to Karthik's site and it looks like he updated a few days ago. Anyhow there's not much in the way of Doom news. Basically he says some Doom work definitely happened and some major news about that should be coming soon. You can read what he has to say on karthik82 and you can also visit the Wikipedia page of Doom which Karthik mentioned on his site. That's it for the Doom news that I can see tho I think that Agent Spork might have some more reviews soon. My Doom senses are tingling! Later!
Even More E3 Impressions Of Doom III
HomeLan Fed has thier E3 Doom III impressions posted up on this page. Here is a small quote from the briefly worded article:While the PC build of id Software's long awaited first person shooter sequel-remake Doom 3 was a no-show at E3 last week, the Xbox version of the game (ported by Vicarious Visions) was very much evident at both publisher Activision and Microsoft's Xbox E3 booths. We managed to get a few minutes with the build to check it out for ourselves. So there you have anouther Doom III article from E3. Before you know it we'll all be playing the game and wanting more.

Doomsday 1.7.15
|
Category: Hosted Site | Ports/Mods |
While the dust settles from E3 Skyjake has come up with a treat for the fans of his top Doom based Sourceport Doomsday.
The new version introduces fakeradio a new lighting engine - which, while not per-pixel shading, is a major improvement to what is already a top notch graphics engine. The new version can be found on Doomsday HQ.
Several other improvements are also present in this Win32 release with the further promise of a Linux version and new netcode to come in the future.
More exciting still, is Skyjake's decision to press onto developing new version of Doomsday under the project title of Hawthorn. Hawthorn will use the technologies available to the current range of graphics cards and API's (programmable pipelines, T&L etc...). More on this when we get it.
Update:Whoops I got the link to Doomsday HQ wrong - thanks to sLydE for pointing that out - the link should work now.
Boomtown Checks Out Doom 3
Here we go again........ This time around Boomtown.net has the goods on Doom 3 XBox edition thanks to the E3 dealie. Here is a quote:Playing Doom 3 in Activision’s hermetically sealed theatre is a scary prospect. Cut off from the hurly burly of the rest of the show and donning the proffered headphones, the game doesn’t pull any punches from the off, as you enter the first room in the game’s small demo level and find what appears to be a dead body sitting in a nearby chair. Unlike most dead bodies though this one’s making a noise and when you get close enough it lunges out at yet, in the game’s first but certainly not last, stand-out scary moment. Ok Doomers go read the whole one page article right here Hmmmm nice looking Imps....

id software's Next Game Info
A trip to Blues News revealed just now that id software plans on doing a completely new game after Doom 3 and won't be doing anouther sequel or remake for their next game. Here is a quote from the article:LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Video game developer id Software, famed creators of games like "Doom" and "Quake", will likely start work on its new project almost immediately after completing four years of work on "Doom 3", its chief executive says.
In an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the video game industry trade show E3 here, Todd Hollenshead said that the game in question was new intellectual property, and was not a "Doom", "Quake" or "Wolfenstein" game. Check out the full Reuters article for the rest of the story.

Much Ado About Rone
I'm a bit late with some of this news but I was swamped with evil spam in my email jobby. Anyhow ellmo sent in the news about a new WLaD system for Rone. What is that you ask? I think a quote will be easier to explain:Thanks to LittleWhiteMouse and my stubborness, the WLaD system has been born and I'm pretty fond of it. It limits the amount of weapons a player can carry, and give the ability to drop some of them. All done with ACS and DECORATE. Certainly worth a look. A bitter taste of reality in ZDooM! Not only that but ellmo said in anouther email that he designed BToR! (EDIT: Ahhhh! WLaD was changed into BToR. If you think I'm changing all this typing then Booyah!) Ummmm gonna do anouther quote now:BToR gives the player a ability to drop weapons, and carry a limited amount of them. It also has simple RPG system, consisting of strength, agility and contribution attributes, that will have a significant influence on the gameplay. The BToR system is still under developement, yet available for download and free to use Anyhow get over to here to see for yourself what the heck is going on with Rone and stuff. Ummmmmm, gee-whiz ellmo updated again with news about NMN's weapons graphics and the screenshots have been updated. Ok I wanna go get a coffee....
Todd Hollenshead Interview
ign.com has a sparkly new Q&A session with id's Todd Hollenshead and they talk about the story, interactive environment, and why the PC has no co-op. Here is the complimentary slice off the olde interview itself:You come back to the base to find all your buddies -- who are marines -- are either turned into zombies, or they're lying dead across the floors and the walls and the desks and everywhere else. You realize that your first mission is survival. You are in contact with your commanding officer, who's a character called Sarge in the game, who has the ability to give you radio instructions. In a nutshell, your mission is to stay alive, kill the demons that you face, try to figure out who [are] the good guys and who [are] the bad guys -- because not everybody is necessarily what they seem -- and ultimately to stop the demons and the forces of Hell from their mission, which is to not only take over Mars, but then to move from Mars to take over Earth. Go read that three page long interview.

More Pre-E3 Xboxed Doom III Stuffs
GameZone posted thier XBoxed impressions of Doom 3 in a pre-E3 preview. Here is a snapshot of a piece off the olde preview jobby:The game features 30-40 hours of gameplay, and there are five multiplayer maps for the Xbox Live experience. The game sports puzzles and mazes, and the weapon swap-out is typical of FPS titles. But this title prey on players with psychological terror. There are moments when hell takes over parts of the base. The scenes are akin to macabre nightmares of flayed bodies, living tentacles embracing whole rooms and ceilings, creepy crawlies and drop in from above, and zombies that pop out and try to do more than simply say boo. The tentacle part sounds pretty snazzy-creepyfried.... anyhow go read the full GameZone Preview.

Pre-E3 Doom 3 On Xbox
ign.com put up thier Pre-E3 Doom 3 imppressions and they say that they've seen the XBox version of the game. From within the depths of the article:Though the demo level was played for us at a slower pace, players will have the option of checking every door, looking at the surroundings, and exploring every nook and cranny of each level or they can just run through and shoot everything (with a handy Sprint Button, no less). That may, however, ruin some of the eerie mood created by a slower pace. In either case, gamers will enjoy a brand new AI physics engine, which allows for a high level of environmental interactivity. Get your doomed marine ass over to this article and check out what they have to say about Doom 3 and the XBox version..

Vilecore II Is 85% Completed
|
Category: Hosted Site | Personal Projects |
I've been sector reconstructing Vilecore into what shall be Vilecore II for what seems like ages now. Suffice to say the project I'm calling Vilecore II will be a bigger, better and meaner megawad than the olde bare-bones, first version. I've spent a lot of time on the project since I last updated about a Month ago and a full report is on my site. Ok so it's not a full report because I've done so much I can't remember it all. To read the rest of what's up with my editing stuff, go and visit The Megawad. Theres a few in-editor shots and if you missed the olde post I made on WIP you can check that out too.

XBox Doom III E3 Preshow Impressions
Kudos to MasterOfPuppets who posted in this thread on our forums for spotting this article on Gamespot. It seems that Activision showed Doom 3 running on the Xbox for the first time publicly at its pre-E3 event in Santa Monica, California. According to the article there seems to be no compromises in the Xbox version from the visually impressive PC version. Check out the screenshots and get psyched for Doom 3, no matter what platform you prefer.

Vicarious Visions Needs Level Designer
Thanks to Keldran for sending me an email to let us know that Vicarious Visions, the developer of the XBox version of DOOM 3 is looking for a level designer. To qualify you'll need to have experience using QERadiant and it says on the site that the individual who's hired will be working on a highly anticipated FPS 3D game. Possibly that would be Doom 3? Anybody interested in applying or just plain interested in what the dealie is can go right here and read the full requirements.
