 Enceladus (1.0)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:30 PM
Category: DOOM 3

I was just having a lurk around some Doom 3 stuff and noticed anouther level release. So anyways Enceladus (1.0) is a Doom 3 single player level by Robert Travis:
Explore the base, kill the bad guys and find the keys to progress and escape!
The level looks pretty good from the four available screenshots. Anyhow that's on Doom 3 Files.

 Slave To The Resurrection
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:08 PM
Category: DOOM 3

There really seems to be a real lack of Doom news lately. Talk about boring... but maybe it's just me. Meanwhile I looked around and found anouther Resurrection Of Evil Review. This time around the review is on GameSlave and this is a shot of what is being said about ROE:
My final major moaning point with the original Doom3 game was the strange lack of movable small objects, quite often almost everything in a room would be fixed. Fortunately this too has been rectified, now the game has a gravity gun I guess it had to be really. You still can't blow up cardboard boxed with high explosive rockets though, that was still asking too much apparently.
Read that Resurrection Of Evil Review.

Gaming Next Does Doom 3 Xbox Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:58 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Now for anouther Doom 3 on the olde Xbox review. First of all here is a small quote from what Gaming next had to say about it all:
The graphics are crisp and clear and makes Doom 3 one of the best looking games on Xbox. The lighting is superb making every room and hallway dark and dreary causing your senses to heighten to any movement or sound. In some areas, the space is so dark you have to switch to a flashlight to see what’s ahead of you, and more likely than not, you’ll flash the light into the face of a demon causing to try and bludgeon the creature to death with a flashlight. The environment created for the entire game just gives you the creeps. The only thing is that most of the game is indoors and it gets kind of redundant. Oh, another hallway, ah, another room with shadows in the corner. It would have been nice just to go outside and do some damage or have some other type of environment. But for what it is, it works.
Ok so it wasn't that small of a quote. Scramble over to that Doom 3 Xbox Review before heading off to Mars... or whatever.

 Viaga DM2 XP
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:10 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Viaga DM2 XP is a modified version of Viavga DM2 that's designed for the Resurrection Of Evil expansion.
The Double Barrel Shotgun and Grabber gun are included, as well as numerous items that can be picked up and thrown by the grabber. There are more weapons and items scattered about and numerous more armor shards. This should help make up for the fact that in general the map is a lot more lethal than it used to be.
That level is on Doom 3 Files.

Resurrection of Evil is best for the multiplayer games.
I liked Resurrection for it's SP action myself but whatever....

Crouch Creeping In The Dark Mod
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:15 PM
Category: DOOM 3

The Dark Mod site recently updated with the news that they have the movement controls set up:
Ishtvan: "Movement controls now support creeping, crouch-creeping, and crouch-running, in addition to the standard D3 movements. Also, toggle crouch can be easily set in the doom3cfg (I didn't add this, was already there)."
They also have several AI models added to the game. Visit The Dark Mod!

 Resurrection Goes Boom
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:09 PM
Category: DOOM 3

I was poking around over on Boomtown and noticed they have a review posted up for Resurrection Of Evil. Here is a shot from the article:
DOOM 3 took place mostly inside the cramped confines of the Martian base, but the dig environments have more room to manoeuvre. This also gives the graphics engine more opportunities to show off its bells and whistles, and we must take our proverbial hats off for id for the sheer visual quality found here.
Have a read from that Resurrection Of Evil review.

That's all on Doomcity.

Doom II for Doom 3 Mod Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:35 PM
Category: DOOM 3

I think I'm getting some kinda bug. I feel kinda crappy and I missed an email that was sent in on Wednesday, so anyhow I'll do that now before I forget. Anyhow Sematary let us know that he reviewed the Doom 3 mod - Doom II for Doom 3.
I gotta tell you. I'm really impressed with the faithfulness to the original levels. They look awesome and still play great.
That's on Doom Wad Station and you can check out that review right here.

Games4x Reviews Doom 3 On Xbox
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:35 AM
Category: DOOM 3

Doom 3 for the Xbox just got itself reviewed again, this time on Game4x where they say this:
You'll be pulled into locations that are heavily detailed and look very deep, the realistic lighting accurately creates a somber yet tense environment when applied to the highly detailed world that is on offer. Lighting effects play a large part in creating the deeply seedy look of Doom III. Walls are the backing for pc consoles, industrial mars equipment and everything else that fits into a scary demon filled scenario.
Have a look at that review for Doom 3 on the Xbox.

 Pianola In Doomola 3ola
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:11 PM
Category: DOOM 3

My internet connection has been crap today and it's driving me crazy. Looking for news when pages don't load or half load is a major pain. So today I'm going to send you to Doom 3 Files where you can check a Doom 3 demonstration of a Pianola:
This is a demo staging a pianola playing Beethoven's Fur Elise. An other interesting use of DOOM 3's GUI system.
Well somebody might find it interesting. Here's the linkage to the Pianola! Adios-ola!

Doom 3 & Resurrection Of Evil Reviews
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:28 AM
Category: DOOM 3

Theres two more Doom 3 reviews today. First up is a Review for Doom 3 on the Xbox that's up at VideoGameCity. Then there's also a review of Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil on Jolt Online Gaming. Here is a shot from the Xbox review:
If you have had any previous experience with a first person shooter before then Doom 3 will feel right at home for you. The controls are perfectly fit to the Xbox controller and moving around is incredibly easy. You are equipped with a flashlight and keep it close because it is often vital to your survival. Most of the game is shrouded in darkness and you must rely on your flashlight to find the right path (or the enemy waiting for you on the ceiling).
Check out those reviews. I think ROE is pretty cool myself. Yesterday I made it to the end of Resurrection Of Evil and have yet to finish the end boss..

 TechConnect Does Resurrection Of Evil
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:02 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Now for anouther Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil Review. This one is on TechConnect and here is a shot of what they had to say about it all:
Another interesting, though sadly underused addition, is a gravity manipulator, which works very much like the grabber gun in that other game. It allows players to pick up otherwise immovable objects, as well as most projectiles thrown by the demon hordes, and throw them back, causing much damage and havok.
Have a read from that Resurrection Of Evil Review. Curently I'm playing ROE and just entered Hell. So far the expansion is a damned fun experience and the double barrel just kicks a lot of demon ass...

 Camoflaged Weapons Mod (1.0)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:50 PM
Category: DOOM 3

There's a weapons Camoflaged Weapons Mod (1.0) over on Doom 3 Files.
I used 2 types of camoflage in this mod: a 5-color Woodland style, and a 3-color nato standard. The colors sets of the camos for the inner areas of UAC buildings (they working in hell too). That's why they are so gray.
Take a look at that Camoflaged Weapons Mod (1.0) jobby.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:08 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

Sematary let us know that the Doom Wad Station was just updated with a new Ultimate Doom map by Eric Buck called Cacophony of Silence. Sematary says that it's a smallish map with decent battles and design, which should be alot of fun for many Doomers. Also on the site there's an update to the TC that goes by the name Duum2 Super. That's all on Doom Wad Station.

I spotted on Slashdot a small article... or more like a wee paragraph that says that a Masters Of Doom movie is in the works that'll be a biography type of film about the formation of id software. The Gamasutra site has more info on the subjectoid.

Doom 3 Xbox Review On EuroGamer
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:50 PM
Category: DOOM 3

EuroGamer now has a review up for the Xbox version of Doom 3 and here is a snatch from the bigger article:
It reels off these bump-in-the-night scenarios in an increasingly gory and devilish manner, gradually coaxing you into the heart of a farfetched yarn about the dangers of meddling with big red things on the other side of portals. And by the time it hits the high notes later on - including the descent into Hell itself, perhaps best immortalised by the realisation that it prompts far more blasphemous exclamation of the "Jesus Christ" variety than virtually any other FPS level in living memory - if you're enjoying it you're going to soldier on to the end with a big smile on your whitening face.
Here is the linkage to that Doom 3 Xbox review.

 Atomic Resurrection Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:39 PM
Category: DOOM 3

They posted up a Resurrection Of Evil Review over on Atomic Maximum Power Computing and here is a shot of what they have to say:
While it's only been nine months for us, two years have pass in the Doom timeline. The Mars facility has long been deserted, its dusty remains vacated for places less hostile. Well, that's until a signal is picked up on the planet's surface and you're sent in to investigate.
Have a gander at that Resurrection Of Evil Review. I gotta go now and play somemore of the expansion myself as I just got the double barrel not too long ago and think it's pretty damned cool.

UnderGroundOnline Gets Into Resurrection Of Evil
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:14 PM
Category: DOOM 3

UnderGroundOnline has thier rendition of a Resurrection Of Evil review posted up and here's a quote:
The level design has been opened up a bit; you'll be fighting more enemies at a time now, so that space will quickly shrink as you back up with your guns blazing. The original atmosphere is back, with a subtle injection of new sound design, nicely laid out levels, and a new story that resumes the hunt for Dr. Betruger - whatever he's turned into.

 GameGuru Mania Reviews Resurrection
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:31 PM
Category: DOOM 3

GameGuru Mania reviewed the Doom 3 expansion, Resurrection Of Evil and here is what they said.... or at least a small bit of it:
It's not a surprise that the expansion plays almost exactly like the original Doom 3 - you'll enter a new area, clear it of enemies, and look for a key item or security upgrade that will let you meet your objective and move on to the next area.
Here is that review.

 2404 Reviews Resurrection Of Evil
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:27 PM
Category: DOOM 3

2404 has a review up for Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil and here is a snip from what they have to say about it all:
…the sheer power of the double-barrelled shotgun and its accompanying sounds will bring an evil grin to the face of any long-time DOOM fan.
I haven't gotten my copy yet so I'm not going to read anymore than that, however you guys can all hit that Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil Review and read the complete thing. Cya!

 The Dark Mod Updateth
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:14 PM
Category: DOOM 3

The Dark Mod site recently updated with the news that they're tweaking the AI for thier Doom 3 mod.
Standard Doom3 AI tests for finding enemies via vision and sound have been majorly rewritten. Our AI now have some chance of seeing you based on the current lightgem value and the distance between the player and AI. Our AI will hear you if you make a sound above their hearing threshold, and the amount above the threshold determines how alerted they get.
There's also a screenie of a noblewoman model on the site, though I haven't been able to find it *scratches head*. Check out The Dark Mod!

 Jdarken2 Beta 3
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:48 PM
Category: DOOM Conversions

Xerxes sent in the info that the the beta 3 version of jdarken2 is now available.
It's the last beta version of jdarken, so the next version are the complete. They have a lot of visual improvement like the detail texture finish, the shiny and other... And now, all the object (without monster) are in 3D. For the 1.0 version, I just need correct some map and convert the monster and finally make the particle for more realistic and gore.
Check that out on Doomcity.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:11 PM

First of all you have to subscribe to IGN's Insider Service to check these out. IGN has two video interviews posted up. One is with Todd Hollenshead and the other Tim Willits both in windows media and quicktime formats. I haven't downloaded these yet so I assume they're about Resurrection Of Evil, tho the little blurb on the main page says The Future Of Doom. Whatever, check out those videos. Also they have thier version of a Resurrection Of Evil Review online.

Resurrection Of Evil Review On Gamespy
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:24 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Over on gamespy.com they posted up a review for the Doom 3 expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil. Here is a shot from that jobby:
FOR A WHILE, I thought the DOOM 3 expansion pack, Resurrection Of Evil, might actually outdo the game that spawned it. That's certainly how I felt during the first half of this add-on, which puts you in the shoes of a new space marine bound for Mars and the hell that awaits him there.
Check on that Resurrection Of Evil Review.

 id Software At Game Rush
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:00 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Todd Hollenshead and other members of the id crew were on hand at a Game Rush store in Dallas to promote Doom 3 on Xbox and Resurrection of Evil. Todd praised up the Xbox and also mentioned that Resurrection Of Evil is a consideration for Xbox as well. As for thier next title all he would say is that it's going to be a first person shooter. Some of us already know (but I'll mention it anyhow) that, the new game id Software is working on won't be a sequel of anykind and will be a completely new title. Furthermore Todd mentioned that Quake IV will make an appearance at the upcoming QuakeCon X. You can check that article out right here that's on Gamespot.

Xbox Doom 3 & Resurrection Of Evil Ships
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:17 PM
Category: DOOM 3

It's official press release time! Activision announced the release of both Resurrection Of Evil and Doom 3 on the Xbox.
Santa Monica, Calif. – April 4, 2005 – DOOM’s day has arrived. id Software™ and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today set soul-thirsty demons loose across the globe with the release of the most terrifying game ever, DOOM 3® for the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil™, the official expansion pack to DOOM 3, the fastest selling first person PC action game ever. Both titles are rated “M” for Mature (Blood and Gore, Intense Violence) by the ESRB.
Well most of us Doomheads already knew about this being the official release date but I wanted to quote this bit:
Two years following the unexplained disaster on Mars, the UAC returns to the abandoned facilities to investigate a mysterious beacon buried deep in the ruins of the ancient civilization. As a combat engineer, you fight for survival against an army of new demons and zombies, including Hell’s own hunters. Use powerful new weapons like the classic double-barreled shotgun and the gravity defying “grabber,” a device that can move, catch and throw objects or small enemies, as you battle through the onslaught of evil sent to hunt you down. Featuring new locations, puzzles and extraordinary powers like the ability to slow time, Resurrection of Evil will have players reloading for the bloodiest battle yet.
So get the hell out of here and go get Resurrection Of Evil or Doom 3 on the Xbox already! It's in the stores worldwide! Yes it has shipped to stores (meaning some clerk opened a box in the storeroom and took the games out of a shipping box and put them on shelves). Then again if you live in the middle of nowhere the game might still be on a truck. Aaaaahhhhhhh!!!

 Facing Hell
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:44 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Dammit, I was just looking at some Doom 3 mods and found something cool and typed up this whole shebang only to realise I had done it already. So anyhow with more looking around I found Facing Hell which is a single player map for Doom 3. There's not much info about the level other than what appears to be some decent screenshots on Doom 3 Files. Might be worth a play while waiting for the final minutes of the countdown to end for Resurrection Of Evil's release tomorrow... sometime. Bring it on id Software!
