 Doomsday Domination - No Fooling!
Posted by Alex 'Slide' Mitchell at 3:52 AM
Category: Hosted Site | Ports/Mods

For those who haven't already seen; coding maestro Skyjake has released the latest version of Doomsday 1.7 (1.7.14-4).

Here's the Changelog:

+ cmd 'playsound': play a sound effect locally
+ Map Info -> Execute: execute a console command after map setup (i.e. also after loading a savegame)
+ Map Info -> Sky Model -> Execute: execute a console command every time the sky model's frame number changes
+ State -> Execute: execute a console command when a mobj enters this state

These may not sound much but new Metroid Prime style HUD effects should now be possible not to mention the new possibilities for map wide special effects (jDEP 3 perhaps?) and ambient sounds. Given that jDoom on Doomsday can already do graphics like this and this, I think we could be in for some serious eye candy soon. (Screenshots from Hexagon's work on Doom Resurrection for jDoom).

Go to DHQ to get this release.

Dani continues his great work on improving the jDRP (jDoom Resource Pack) with a md3 version expected some time after the release of Doomsday 1.8 (hopefully we'll have some screens soon).

Speaking of Doomsday 1.8, Work continues at a pace with more features seemingly appearing daily. This includes the possibility of ZDoom level compatibility - the graphics/sounds of Doomsday on your old ZDoom maps?

Nice.
