Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:51 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Game Informer Online talks with Tim Willits and Matt Hooper of id software and Brandon James of Nerve Software about the upcoming Xbox port of Doom 3 and the Resurrection of Evil expansion. Here is a clip:
TW: Basically, our Xbox multiplayer experience is right along the same lines as the PC version. It supports four players and the game types include Free For All, Last Man Standing, Team Play, and Tournament Play. It’s basically the same levels that you saw in the PC version, but we’re also planning on having downloadable content, which we’ll be making available in the future, as well.

As videogames become more mainstream, so must the advertising. For the April release of DOOM 3 on Xbox, Activision decided to get a big-name director to help make a high-impact commercial for television.
They talk to director Paul Anderson in this article so check it out.

Carmack Working On Doom Themed Cell-Phone Game
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:22 PM
Category: id Software

Due to a visit to Computer Games Magazine I spotted that John Carmack has updated his blog on Armadillo Aerospace where he reveals that he's been working on a Doom themed cell-phone game. Here is a chunk of text from his blog:
I have a small list of games that I think would work out well, but what I decided to work on is DoomRPG – sort of Bard’s Tale meets Doom. Step based smooth sliding/turning tile movement and combat works out well for the phone input buttons, and exploring a 3D world through the cell phone window is pretty neat. We talked to Jamdat about the business side of things, and hired Fountainhead Entertainment to turn my proof-of-concept demo and game plans into a full-featured game.
For the rest of the deal check out Carmack's Blog. By the way this is something John is doing on the side while not working on id software's next title.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:59 PM
Category: DOOM 3

I was lurking around and found a Doom 3 site that's doing up a western themed, multiplayer mod that's called The Doomed West.
The mexican town and some train tracks with some side buildings still need to be built to finish the map shown in the screenshots. It also needs to be detailed further and some things need to be filled up.
Yeah so check out The Doomed West.

Doom 3 Introspective: Mac Performance Followup
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:47 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Santaduck sent in the news that Macologist has posted up a Doom 3 Introspective: Mac Performance Followup article
We worked closely with Rob-ART Morgan of Barefeats, and benched machines from the top DP 2.5 G5s with X800 XT or 6800Ultra, down to a 500Mhz Cube with a 9000pro, and almost everything in between. We've also done in-depth case studies on three configuations such as the iMac G5, a MDD G4, and a high-end system. If you have a lower-spec machine you'll know what to expect after reading our article. We've also explored CPU, RAM, VRAM, L3, 6800U vx X800, and what tweaks to make without ruining the experience. Also included are case studies on various machines from low to high: a MDD G4, iMac G5, and a high end system.

And speaking of actual gameplay experience, that's what it's all about in our opinion, and we have gone beyond the benchmarks to talk about what you can expect on a real world machine even if you don't have a G5 tower with x800/6800U. We'll also be updating the piece in the coming weeks to include numbers from third party 7457 G4 upgrades, and other machines.
Check out that article.

 Latest Foreverhood Stuff
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:26 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

Skadoomer sent in the news that the Foreverhood level design is being put on hold while the gameplay is being worked on along with the enemy sprites and the clean up of the internally built beta test version into, whatever comes after a beta test version. Lets quote Skadoomer so he can explain the rest of the dealie:
Some information to consider: Foreverhood is currently being set to be relaeased on may 7th, the day of my senior art show. It will use graf zahl's current "port" of zdoom which adds in custom weapon support, as well as some minor behavior impliments. Pending some questions i have concerning gameplay get answered by a few, source code savvy individuals, foreverhood may have a slightly different playing style then most previous mods, but more on thatr later...
Check out the Foreverhood site and he also provided this link to the ZDoom Forum but I don't get why. Haha.

Spend Some Time In Prison Obsidian?
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:17 PM
Category: DOOM 3

So I was on Doom 3 Files once more, mostly just to poke around and stuff and this time I spotted that Kilson released a Doom 3, Single Player level called Obsidian. Here's a quote from the description:
You’re a prison guard on mars; you’ve dealt with the toughest meanest badasses around. But one night while on duty a energy wave sweeps through the base you see bodies fly and people die in front of your eyes just before darkness takes you and you fall unconscious.

This is where you take over in the middle of the destruction of Prison Obsidian, your only chance is escape, can you make it through the hordes of flesh eating demons.
This just might be a good time to play Obsidian while waiting for Resurrection Of Evil or whatever it is you might be waiting for.

 Amalgamating The NDCP Pages
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:56 PM
Category: DOOM Sourceports

I just updated the NewDoom Community Project site. I took all info from five pages and merged it all onto one page, updated the screenshots and also scaled the number of shots down to two per wad. I needed to do this as it'll make it easier to maintain. As for the project itself, we have a total of eight levels to go before completion. Anyways take a look at the NewDoom Community Project site while I go do up my peppersteak stir fry jobby. Adios!

Just noticed that they updated the Recall To Hell site with the news that they were interviewed by Doom3maps and here is a snip:
The engine definitely has potential! With a little creativity and work on the textures it is even possible to create beautiful innovative environs beyond the technology ambience that is typical for doom3.
The Doom3maps site is in German but us English folk can partake of the interview part 2 that's posted on the Recall To Hell site. Also note that they posted up some cool screenshots, concept art and model-pics.

Doom 3 On The Xbox Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:45 PM
Category: DOOM 3

I'm having a hard time using the net over here. My god bleepin' internet connection decided to start acting screwy today and webpages are half-loading and stuff... very annoying. Errrr, anyways somehow I missed this before but anyhow, it seems that Gamepro has posted up the first XBox Doom 3 review.
The visual design of the game lends itself perfectly to the horrors of the unknown: stark, flickering lights illuminate vividly rendered environments and cast deep shadows into corners and hallways.
Yeah check on that review.

The Rock, The Daily Show & The Doom Movie
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:18 PM
Category: The DOOM Movie

Gamespot posted up an article about the Doom 3 movie. Seems that The Rock was on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart to promote Be Cool and Jon prodded The Rock about the Doom film.
Taking much of its inspiration from the PC game Doom 3, the film will take place in a paramilitary research facility on Mars, where things go awry and hell is literally raised. Some theories say that the Rock is actually Satan in disguise, which would tie in to the film and game's devilish setting.
Sooo it is on Mars then? Anyhow you can find that article right here.

 Latest Resurrection Of Evil Preview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:09 PM
Category: DOOM 3

I was having trouble finding a bit of Doom news until I spotted a Doom 3, Resurrection Of Evil preview on Firing Squad. Here's a quote from what they have to say about it:
Casting the player in the role of an engineer, you are sent to investigate a mysterious signal near the Mars facility, rather than donning the Marine armor again. Key gameplay elements are unchanged - the story is still revealed through bits and pieces of scattered information, and the style of action remains faithful to the original. Though, from our time with the game we noticed slightly more open and brighter environments, and fewer monster-in-the-closet deals.
Have a check up on that preview.

 Doom Movie News
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:29 PM
Category: The DOOM Movie

I spotted on Shack News that they mentioned some Doom Movie news. There's a Doom Journal by Doug Jones which is a personal record of Doug's thoughts, comments and stories during the making of the film.
Rosemund Pike is quite gorgeous up close, and very, very professional. We had a chat one day agreeing on the wonders of Arnica cream on bruises and skin abrasions. What else would you expect a girl and a guy in an imp suit to talk about?
Have a gander at that Doom Journal.

 Yadex Patches
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:52 PM
Category: DOOM Editing

I noticed this yesterday but forgot to post it up. The Unix, Doom level editor Yadex has a couple patch updates that remaps some keys and adds some additional tools.
I have updated the Yadex patch page with three new patches: first one is my additional tools (the sector-reassignment function on the [Z] key is a feature I can't live without when editing), another one just remaps some keys for better laptop usage, and the third one combines all the patches there into one dirty big mess for one's patching pleasure.
Check out that Yadex jobby.

 UAC Phobos Facility
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:36 PM
Category: DOOM 3

So I was on Doom 3 Files again and this time I spotted that Bean released a Doom 3, Single Player level called UAC Phobos Facility. Now for a quote from the description:
The UAC Phobos Communication and Defense Facility is the U.S. Government Black-Ops hub for interdimensional technologies. After a series of demonic occurrences at the Defense Wing of Phobos, demons invade the facility and a task force is escorted in to clean up the mess.
Might be a good time to play UAC Phobos Facility while waiting for Resurrection Of Evil.
