Commander Keen For GameBoy Color Announced!
Posted by William 'Phoebus' Mull at 6:00 PM
Category: General

Here's the announcement straight from Activision:
id Software and Activision, Inc. are teaming up this spring to release Commander Keen, an action-packed, comedic quest to save the cosmos for the Game Boy Color. Commander Keen is rated E, for Everyone, by the ESRB.

Commander Keen marks a return to id Software’s roots -- developing over-the-top, comic book-style adventure games for kids. Based on id’s original Commander Keen series on the PC, Commander Keen finds precocious 8-year-old superhero Billy Blaze on an all-new quest to save the world from his alien adversaries, the Droidiccus, Shikadia and Bloogs of Fribbulus Xax.

Commander Keen shows a kinder, gentler side of id Software, Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software said. Like the original Commander Keen adventures, this is a game that appeals to the spunky 8-year-old hero in all of us – putting the ‘id’ back in ‘kid.’

But no one said saving the world before bedtime would be easy. A side scrolling platform game, Commander Keen challenges players to save the world by finding super-powerful plasma crystals hidden on three separate alien worlds. Each world contains several multi-level maps rife with progressively precarious puzzles. Throughout the adventure, Keen will encounter more than 35 different aliens as well as puzzles, slime pits, magical platforms, secret rooms and teleporters.

An undisputed classic, the original Commander Keen games combined excellent level design and platform action for an unforgettable gameplay experience, said Larry Goldberg, executive vice president, Activision Worldwide Studios. Our goal with Commander Keen for the Game Boy Color is to bring this incredibly satisfying and addictive experience to a whole new generation of console gamers.

Commander Keen for the Game Boy Color is being developed by David A. Palmer Productions for Activision and id Software.

More proof that we've got some true talent in our midst, fellers! Roland from Cynic Guru, a progressive / rock / techno / pop / (you name it!) band in LA, sent us a tune inspired by, you guessed it, our favorite game of gibbing fun! Sayeth Roland:
Greetings! I have been a LONG time fan of Doom (I still have LAN parties with Doom). Anyway, I'm a professional violinist and I front a rock band here in Los Angeles called Cynic Guru. I finally decided to write a tune to show my gratitude for this awesome game. The song is called DOOM, and it describes the life of a DOOM marine cutting through imps, snorting pigs, and cacodemons. Have a listen...you might get a kick out of it! It was recorded at Skotlapop Studios in Los Angeles....and it sounds pretty cool!!! I'd love to hear what some of you think about it!
You can download it right here from our Files Section, and be sure to check out Cynic Guru's site at MP3.com!

 KZDoom VII
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 6:00 PM

A Place of Doom has released kzdoom7. Kurt Kesler had this to say:
I have completed kzdoom7. The map has only a few flaws. The polyobject doors sometimes leak textures through the surrounding walls, but only a few doors have this porblem. The newest ZDoom 1.23beta14 seems to be a stable enough engine for enjoyable play, but the saved games might fail upon loading them.
