The Central Conflict Project Requests Help
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:20 PM
Category: DOOM 3

According to j'tal The Central Conflict team is looking for a few good Doom 3 coders and animators plus a new web site designer for their Doom 3 TC.
Central Conflict will be a total conversion for doom 3 set in a futuristic cyber-punk world of warring factions, secret government conspiracy s, and corporate wars. Characters will be able to experience the mod and environment in single player AND co-op mode with other players.
j'tal says that they already have a solid team of concept artists, 2D and 3D artists plus a sound engineer. They need help in the coding department and need somebody to finish the website, keep it updated and someone who knows PHP/MySQL to complete the work that was started. If you're interested in joining this Doom 3 mod team you can contact The Central Conflicts team leader by email right here.

 New Risen 3D Stuffs

Category: Hosted Site | Ports/Mods

According to Abbs theres some kinda update for Risen 3D, so a quick jaunt over there reveals some Risen 3D Goodies. The Doom Port now supports the use of detailed textures and alpha 3D flats. There's also a texture pack by Daniel Norton, enhanced splashes and an updated R3D Launcher which is now at version 3.06, so if you want to check any of this stuff out, you'll need to jump onto Risen 3D.

There's a new screenshot on the main page that I took inside the letter M. Also there's some other non-doom related stuff on there. Guess I was bored and typed too much.. Check out my latest ramblings on The Megawad. Happy New Year Everybody!

Halfway To Hell Megawad For ZDoom
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:14 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

Unconscious sent in the news info that the D3U Team have started up a ZDoom megawad entitled Halfway To Hell.
Halfway To Hell will feature 32 new levels, new textures, new flats, and new sprites. It follows the events of the originial Doom, you arrive back to Earth, to discover that you had not destroyed the real source of the invasion back in hell.
I'm also told that this mod will have vehicles, a deep storyline and the scare factor of Doom 3. Jump onto the Doom 3 Unlimited site for more info and whatnot or hit this topic for discussion on it all.

Mr_Rocket informed me that his Chia Pet wilted. No, that's not right.... he told me that ages ago he and some other mappers wanted to make a huge, coop megawad, for Doom Legacy with all the nifty editing features. The project was being worked on but suddenly it keeled over and work on it ceased. So now Mr_Rocket has plans to ressurect the project and is looking for mappers to come forth and help out. If you want to help out and aren't afraid of playing with sectors and other editing things, go and visit the topic on our forums right here.

Kiltron Stops Work On Quake 2 Remix Mod
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:35 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Once again I was lurking around Doom 3 Files and discovered that Kiltron had to can the Quake 2 Remix Mod for Doom 3 that he was working on. Unfortunately there ended up being a real lack of support from some of the project's members and there was a lack of modding support from id software as well. All of this has taken it's toll and it looks like Kiltron won't be doing anymore projects for Quake 3, DOOM 3 or any future id Software techology. That's a shame and you can read all of what Kiltron said right here or hit his Mean Arena site.

 Grenades Into Flares
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:09 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Due to me lurking around Doom 3 Files I noticed a mod that is a neat alternative to plastering a light on every one of your guns... something I thought was a bit overkill, really. I mean should the Doom Guy have a light in his boot as well? Heh. Errrr anyways this dude named rodzilla took the hand grenades and turned them into flares. Here is what he has to say about it all:
Recently people have whined, moaned, and pissed all over themselves about the fact that iD could somehow have a game take place in the future yet you didn't have night vision. Or about the fact that you could hold 10 guns and hundreds of rounds of ammo all at once, but couldn't hold flashlights for each of those guns at the same time. So some mods were created that let you attach a flashlight to your guns.

While it's a good idea if you're a girly man who plays the game at noon with the lights on, there are better solutions to the "problem."
Soooo if you want a few flares to light up those creepy, demon infested areas, then go forth with your marine butt in tow and get those flares right here. I think it's a neat alternative for lighting up areas in the game. Not that I've tried it, but you can. Ok me go now...

Merry Christmas, Vile Flesh & More!
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:32 AM
Category: DOOM Wads

The Newdoom Staff wishes each and every one of you, a very Merry Christmas! I stayed up a bit late Christmas Eve and it's now officially a few hours into Christmas morning here in Canada. So here is a Doomed Conglomerate of news items for all you nutty Doom Community people. First up Jive said the Legacy version of Vile Flesh will be done for Christmas day. A check on Wads In Progress reveals that Vile Flesh is released.... where the download is at, is anybodys guess. No wait, I had to 'root around' and 'viola!' you can get the Vile Flesh download in this forum topic. I also noticed on WIP that Agent Spork finished his Denial level that is made for Doom 2 and requires ZDoom to play. In other Doom news I spotted that the UAC Warfare site was updated. The Doom 3 mod team finished the CTF game mode and michi.be is working hard on a eight player CTF Mars level. There's also new screenshots and other info if your interested. Ok next I noticed that ReX posted some info and screenshots for the seventh wad in the Wicked series. Hit Doom Nexus for those screenshots n' stuff. Well unless somebody sends me some Doomed news within the next several parsecs, then that's all the news for several hours or something! Take er cool, have a beer and have a great Christmas!

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:21 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

Jive sent in the news information that the Legacy version of Vile Flesh will be all set for downloading on December 25th. At the moment, the original author, Gwyn Williams is going over the megawad and is currently testing it. So all we can do at the moment is wait. So this should be a pretty nifty Christmas gift to open up. Meanwhile you can check out this topic that contains some updated screenshots or hit Doom Legacy Wads for some wad downloads.

 Ultra Realistic Shotgun Mod
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:49 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Wrake released a Doom 3 mod that changes the shotgun into a Ultra Realistic Shotgun with increased spread, new wound texture, and increased kickback.
This being my second mod i wanted to continue with the ultra realistic series so i've turned my attention to the shotgun. Now ive pretty much left the damage the same but iv'e rebalanced the destructive power by increasing the amount of projectiles that it fires to something more in keeping with a real cartidge (around 60 in this case, cast forth for your flesh tearing needs) each does 2.5 damage (this is to make up for the fact that alot more shot will find there target thus causing more damage!
If you want that shotgun mod go get it right here on Doom 3 Files.

Clash of the Titans: Doom 3 Versus Half-Life 2
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 4:16 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Just spotted on The Adrenaline Vault that they just posted up an article entitled: Clash of the Titans: Doom 3 Versus Half-Life 2 of which I didn't get to read completely (in hurry to run off and devour sausages) but it's interesting indeed. Here is a quote jobby:
Both titles present futuristic science-fiction stories, but both plots have been mischaracterized. Many assume that Doom 3 has no story, yet the personal digital assistants (PDAs) do communicate both plot and character development, providing interesting data on UAC personnel; a somewhat parallel technique has recently worked well in Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime Echoes as well as in TRON 2.0. In contrast, many assume that Half-Life 2 has a deep story, yet the plot contains holes, unresolved enigmas and seems very much in the background, as you often pick up bits and pieces of what the main plot threads are. Both have a single male hero - Gordon Freeman in Half-Life 2 and a nameless space marine in Doom 3. However, in Doom 3 the hero's characteristics are downplayed, while in Half-Life 2 everywhere you go the hero is downright legendary, and character interaction plays a much more important role.
Go forth and eat that article while I go read my sausages!

Video Game News Reviews Doom 3
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:33 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Way over on Video Game News they posted up thier late review of Doom 3 and here is a snippage:
There is no feeling of satisfaction, no happiness that I’m killing the critters. It’s just me, trying to get through them. Like waiting in a line at the supermarket. You just want to push the people out of the way and get your shit and get out. That’s how Doom 3 is.
Well one thing is for sure. Not everybody is going to like the game. Also I'm quite aware that the people who block supermarket isles, without a care for anybody else, all need to be sent to Mars. Ahhh well, that review is waiting right here.

 11 Years Of Doom Screenshots
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:34 AM
Category: Hosted Site | Personal Projects

I went ahead and updated my own personal webspace with some screenshots of the map I'm currently working on. Last year I made a level for Doom's 10th Birthday and this year I've decided to continue the idea with a level honoring Doom's 11th. So I'm a bit late and totally missed the actual birthday release, but I started late and I don't need to rush anything. Anyhow the map is called 11 Years Of Doom and you can check out my screenshots on The Megawad on the Single Player Maps section. Next time I post about this, the map will be released.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:09 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

I took a quick peek at Wads In Progress just now and spotted that some wads have been released since I last mentioned WIP on here. Lets see now.... firstly a Doom 2, single player level called Hollow Minds was finished by nebula (mentioned before but worth rementioning). Then noticed that The Flange Peddler finished off To Hell and Back which is map07 from the Community Chest 2 megawad and the download is for the entire CC2 wad, of course (that's for Doom 2, single player). Then we have a double shot from Kaiser who released Halo Of Wonders (Doom 2, Single Player) and also Return Of The Order which is a Strife, single player wad. Lastly but not least [LeD] Tuz released a deathmatch map for Doom 2 called YWD (You Will Die)! So yeah go grab some wad(s) and get gaming!

Dave Callaham's Open Letter To The Doom Fans
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:55 PM
Category: The DOOM Movie

The Doom Movie script writer, Dave Callaham contacted HomeLan Fed and asked to address the fans of the game directly in an open letter. Here is some of what he had to say:
I very truthfully believe that my unapologetic and hyper-violent script would have been a Doom fan's movie dream come true. However, since my involvement, the film has steadily moved away from the realm of fandom and more toward the realm of traditional Hollywood interests. It's not been ideal, in my opinion, but I did what I could when I could, and I stand by that work.

 Operation: Spectre On WIP
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:31 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

Dark_Shadow dropped us a message to let us all know he's working on Operation: Spectre. He says that the project was intended to be just a simple JDoom wad but somehow has turned into a massive conversion from Doom to JDoom with a Doom3 Flavor.
I am planning on releasing a 1 map demo of the 20 map megawad somtime around Christmas / New Years. The entire megawad should and I use the word "should" loosely, be completed by March/April 2005. SO if you are interested...take a look.
You can check it out right here which is on Wads In Progress.

Info On Vilecore II & 11Years.wad
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:13 PM
Category: Hosted Site | Personal Projects

There's not much going on in the world of DooM lately... or so it seems. Nobody near or far has been sending in news the last few days. Also a search for Doom 3 mods revealed less than I had hoped for. So while everybody is slacking (or just seeming to) I decided to update my own personal webspace with some very basic info about a new map that I started and I also posted about some of the Vilecore II mapping I've done recently. I also fixed some links and page anomalies that I had. My About page now explains how my site got started and what the heck Vilecore II is exactly. My doomed blabberings are all on The Megawad.

The mod team has a group of 15 members including concept artists, modellers, texture artists and programmers. On the site there's a recent update with a shot of some work one of the modellers did for a Builder Guard. Sneak on over to The Dark Mod and have a look around.

 Foreverhood Badlands Screenshots
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:45 PM
Category: DOOM Wads

With people sending in thier news I don't have to root around the net looking for scraps as much. Anyroad we have some news from Skadoomer wo let us know that his site has been updated with new screenshots of the Badlands. Here is what he has to say for himself about his project:
Since this is a college project for art and design, i have to present my semesters worth of work on Wednsday. All looks to be pretty good, but i'm a little further behind than i would have hoped at this point. However, there is only one more level that HAS to be built for a demo to be released, which i'm shooting for in early May.
So there you go and take off to the Foreverhood site.

I just released the first set of maps for my MegaWad called BuzzSaw.wad. I've released the first four and I am currently working on the next four. While it's been made specifically for DOOM2.EXE/DOOM95.EXE, I have made sure that it is compatible with Legacy and it is.

 TNT 4 In Development

Category: DOOM Wads

Tormentor667 sent in some Doom news to inform the community about the latest TNT part he's working on, (Torment & Torture 4 : Havoc) and there's also a preview screenshot of map02.
I plan to release TNT4 in first quarter of 2005, february to be more exact, but I don't want to promise anything. With each TNT part (except LE, although it also worked with this one) I tried to create successors with much more features, details, more impressive atmosphere and effects and each time it got harder.
So if you want more info on the upcoming TNT 4, hit Realm 667!

Doom Movie: No Mars and No Hell and Pinky Is In A Wheelchair?
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:14 AM
Category: The DOOM Movie

Ant sent in some new info on the Doom Movie which leads to the Dark Horizons site where they have a translated story summary from a Czech reporter who visited the set of the Movie in Prague.
Originally, the $70 million film was supposed to be helmed by Enda McCallion. Later, he was replaced by Andrzej Bartkowiak. Screenwriter Dave Callahan claims "everyone was keen to keep the game's atmosphere", though there are some "minor" changes done to the film's concept: The monsters have nothing to do with hell, the plot is not taking place on Mars and "space marines" are not well "space marines" as their outfits are more like SWAT team members.
Wow, sounds like a ruination if you ask me. Also the bit about a guy named Pinky who's in a cybernetic wheelchair made me laugh my ass off. Haahaa! Geez it's not even going to have anything to do with Mars or Hell??? Maybe the translation got buggered? Not likely but why is it being called Doom then? Go read the article for yourself.

 UAC Maintenace Deptartment
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:38 PM
Category: DOOM 3

Eric Stenborg released a Doom 3 Single Player level called UAC Maintenace Deptartment (1.0) on Doom 3 Files and here is what he has to say about it:
This is my first real shot at a full map. The theme of the level is the UAC Maintenace Dept. on Mars City. Think of it as a 'lost level' of sorts. Besides that there's really no special storyline. I learned a lot in the process and I'm ready to start my second map!
It certainly looks cool from the three available screenshots so maybe it's time to investigate the UAC Maintenace Deptartment!
