 Guardian Of Doom
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 4:23 PM
Category: General

Metabolist has posted two reviews. He also sent us a piece about GBA Doom that was in one of the sections in The Guardian.
Walking around mazes shooting monsters could scarcely be regarded as a simulation of anything in particular, and yet when Doom first came out, parents were up in arms about how it was training children to kill. Luckily the predicted videogame-inspired carnage never materialised, and those of us that grew up on first-person shooting games appear to be (relatively) unaffected, so it is with some measure of relief that we can greet a new portable incarnation of this ageing classic. Doom on Game Boy Advance is an amalgamation of levels from various versions of the original that represents the very best of what it had to offer. Key cards, hell knights, and the ubiquitous shotgun all make their way back into this miniature masterpiece. It's no longer scary, and unless you have extremely small hands will cause severe cramps, but Doom is still a defining game experience and one that you can now take on holiday with you.
Don't forget to head over to Metabolist's Site for those reviews.

 Jaakko's jHexen Progress
Posted by William 'Phoebus' Mull at 4:55 PM
Category: General

In case you didn't catch the news on our sister site, Raven-Games.com, we received word from Jaakko Keränen concerning his progress on jHexen:
Things are slow but at least I'm making progress. The state and movement of polyobjs now seems to be properly propagated to clients, which in turn move and rotate the polys as asked. I was struggling with a particularly nasty bug for several days until I noticed that just one flag wasn't set when I thought it would be, and the problem was solved... It looks like jHexen clients aren't at least crashing any more, which is what they've been doing until now. Next I'll be addressing sound issues and the handling of intermissions and the finale during netgames. Shouldn't be too difficult...
Sounds good? Head to the jHexen site for more info!

 Legacy News
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 3:25 PM
Category: General

The Legacy Team has a small update about what is happening in the world of the Legacy engine. Here is a small snippet:
Nothing exiting to say on the front of Doom Legacy. We are going to work on Legacy 1.32 beta 4. This version won't add or fix lots of things, but should fix most annoying bugs found in beta 3 (but don't expect much better network code, even if we will work a little on it).
For the rest of this update get to Doom Legacy.

 Mirra Speedrunning Scores
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 1:13 AM
Category: General

Mirra Speedrunning has updated with word on changes made to the way that movie demos are scored.
Basically it goes up in increments of 5, rather than 1. (1st place gets 15 points, 2nd place gets 10, and 3rd place gets 5, for example. This will vary depending on number of demos for that run, check the rules page for more details). This is to promote movie runs, since they are cool, and harder to do. ... and the battle for e2m6 continues. :)
Check out the latest demos at Mirra Speedrunning.

Disciple-X sent in the news:
I have updated the MSA Doom site with a link to download some of the awesome music that will be in my wad. The music is MOD format, so people will need a MOD music player, or Winamp. I have also updated the Screenshots section, the new Screenshots show off some the things that will be featured in MSA Doom.
The MSA DooM site is where you need to go for more information.
