 Danok's ModelDef For JHeretic
Posted by William 'Phoebus' Mull at 6:00 PM
Category: General

In Doom-engine related news, Danok, best known for his ModelDef file for use with JDoom (which you can download from Stimpee's JDoom Resource), has now done the same for JHeretic. Unfortunately, as those of you who've played Kokak's GLHeretic know, there's only been a couple md2 files made. That's just not right. If you make models and would like to contribute your skills to help bring a great classic like Heretic into the realm of 3D, check Kokak's GLHeretic site for the md2 specs and please send Kokak an email! And you can download Danok's MDF for JHeretic right here from the Raven-Games.com Files Section.

Well, i dont know how to start this. Today, November 14 2000, at 1:24 PM, i was diagnosed with a tumor behind my left eye. My doctor told me that if I dont get surgery soon, it will turn into an incurable type of ocular cancer...
I've posted this to let everyone in the Doom community and beyond to think about him in your prayers or thoughts. There is more information on his website. This is a very tragic circumstance. Let's think about him in the next couple of days and hope that he pulls thru and can continue to Doom on!

 The Mole Update!
 Posted by at 6:00 PM
Category: General

The guys over at The Mole's Lair have sent us an update bit. Here you go:
the terrere competition is going pretty well with 9 new demo's! Three from me, four from Doug and two from Dirk "Daddy" Vanrie. Doug has still 2 points more than me. But, i think i might be able to improve some of his demo's soon and gain on him. Albert's keeping it suspiciously quiet so expect a demo bomb from him soon :-) Gonzalo hasn't send in any more demo's too so that keeps the three of us. I hope there will be some new contestants too. If you liked terrere1, why dont you make a demo for it then. A little scared? Sissy! :-) Altough, my site comes first of course :-) keep visiting other interesting sites too. I've added some more to the links page and cause it's getting quite big i've ordered them by subject. Dont expect too much progression in my wads cause i'm fully working on the L.I.N.K. contest of the Doomer's Recess.
Head over and check it out.

New Doom Wad Made In A Week Contest!
Posted by William 'Phoebus' Mull at 6:00 PM
Category: General

We've come to a decision on the contest we've been thinking about for a while and discussing over on our forums. It'll be a Best Doom II Map Made In A Week contest.
We'll design a base map to start with and release it on our files section. We'll make an update about it here on the news page at that time.
Look for a page / separate section with the rules and how to submit, etc., coming soon.
We'll make a couple of posts before the start of the contest, to let you know when we're releasing the base map, so you can be on the look-out for it.
Then you've got one week from that moment (as denoted by the date and time of the news update announcement) to come up with your work of wadding wonderment!
Deathmatch? Singleplayer? Extra art, etc.?
The answer is yes! Doesn't matter to us, just do your best. And IF we get enough map submissions, we can split up the winners by categories; therefore, we could be giving out prize(s) - to be announced - to more than one winner. Can you submit more than one map? Yes, but not of the same category. Use your best judgement as to what constitutes categories, we're not going to tell you everything ;)
Best of luck! 'Cause, love it or hate it, that's what it's going to be! :)

 Doom 3?

Well.. over at Voodoo Extreme they have alittle thing going with 4 screenshots. It's a little "name that game engine" contest. One of the options is our beloved and highly anticipated little game called Doom 3 (or as we like to call it NewDoom).

Personnally I don't think it's NewDoom. I'd have to go with something like AvP2 or Unreal 2. But I could be wrong.. trust me :)

 Doomin' Interviews!
 Posted by at 6:00 PM
Category: General

Yo, yo, yo... there is a great interview with the Doom Legacy guys on BootMax.com. Here's a little snippet from the article:
Stinger: Why did you stick to editing and playing doom even after the more recent games came out?

Hurdler: Well, it started when Boris, the main coder and a big Doom fan, asked me if I wanted to join the Legacy team to do the OpenGL render driver, as he knew about my OpenGL skills and the team wanted to port their Glide driver to OpenGL. At that time, I was quite interested by doing a cool OpenGL game, so it was the good opportunity. Especially since I liked playing Doom with my friends at university where the computers were only 486dx50 (1996-98). Doom and Warcraft II were the only cool network game that worked on those machines. That said, I still prefer strategy and adventure games, but it's still fun to play Doom from time to time, and more than ever now that I'm fully implied in the Legacy project. I simply like the simplicity of Doom with the new features we added to it, making it more comparable to actual fps games, but with the old Doom feeling.

Steven "StroggOnMeth" McGranahan: I have played many games that have gone way beyond Doom as far as capability and graphics. I've also edited many games (Quake 2 and Half Life), but for some reason, Doom has always captured my imagination and my time. True 3D games are really cool, but editing levels (for them) is still far to time consuming.

Boris Pereira: Unfortunately, I don't play Doom anymore. I still work on the code, but only so I can finish what I started.
There's even more in there, about some community site called NewDoom.com or other, so head on over and check it out... might be some good read'n ;)

 Albert's At It Again

Wim Vanrie has informed us that Albert of Cyber Dreams has struck again. This time, it was at The Mole's Lair. Wim, choking back the tears, said today:
You just wont believe it but Albert has struck again. The rumors were true he sent in a mini-contest demo in 18:46. I wonder if someone will be able to improve this.
Devastated but undeterred, Wim battled on to record some UV single records again. And he has succeeded. Level 10 and 13 have both been improved by one second. To hear more of his brave plight, head to The Mole's Lair. Remember, if you see Albert in Doom, do not approach him.
