Freedoom Seeks Project Admin(s)
Jon sent us word that he is looking for interested people to take over responsibility for maintaining the Freedoom project. Here is what he has to say about it all:The freedoom project is a relatively mature project to replace all the copyright-protected content in DOOM so that a GPL port can be played without owning a copy of the original doom. The IWAD we are developing is very near completion and compatible with the Debian Free Software Guidelines - (DFSG) - the de-facto standard for 'free as in free speech'. Presently there are a number of people who actively discuss the project on our messageboards, however myself and master maintainer Fraggle have very little time to devote to the project. New blood would be responsible for the promotion and direction of the project. So if you want to help Jon out, let him know about it. Also you can check out the discussion and also read up on Debian Free Software.

Sapphire Scar Doom 3 Mod Interview #2
Doom3Extreme has posted an interview with Gleemonex and ColdKodiak of the Doom 3 Mod, Sapphire Scar making this the 2nd interview with the mod team. Here is a slice of the interview: Doom3Xtreme: As far as the location goes, where will most of the action take place? The space elevator sounds interesting but so does running across the surface of Europa!
Gleemonex: Most of the action is going to take place within the 6 stations of the installation: two under Europa's ice crust, one on the surface, and three aloft on the space elevator itself. Additionally, we are currently considering missions that include surface walks, spacewalks, and maybe a swim or two :) Go read the full interview and if your interested you can also check out the first interview.
Todd Hollenshead Checks Out The Tats
Todd Hollenshead updated his .plan file on the Webdog site. It seems that Todd received some cool tattoo entries after he announced he wanted to see peoples id software related tatoo's the other week in an unofficial contest announcement.I'm also going to try and post all of the pictures sent in on our website. So if you send one in, please let me know if it's okay to go ahead and post it at the site for everyone to see. It's okay if you don't want the pic posted for the sake of privacy (or any other reason) and you're still eligible to win. I wish I would have thought about that when I posted this originally, since now I have to ask everyone who sent a photo in if it's cool with them if I put the pic up on the website :( Of course, some of them will have to be censored. But luckily for me it's been only the women who get ink in naughty places >:) So if you have a id software related tattoo in a naughty place or some other region you should show it off to Todd. So hit Todd's .plan file and get his email addy (its listed in his file) if you're Keen on showing your tats.

Doom 3 Gets Hotwire Reviewed
Inside Hotwire 3D has thier redition of a Doom 3 review pasted onto thier site. Here is a shot from the review: Eventually, the graphics do serve their purpose and you're left with the gameplay which makes the FPS genre. That is, every gun only has one usage. e.g.. If you're spoiled by Half-Life's or Unreal Tournament primary and secondary actions, don't be shocked. The guns do serve their purpose but I found myself just using the shotgun, despite all the more powerful guns in the game. Ok, go read the whole ˝ page review.

Mindlessgames Reviews Doom 3
Well it took me awhile to get my version of a Doom 3 review finished and now it's all set for reading. Here is a clip from the review:id Software's version of Hell is definitely one of the best Hells ever designed in a video game so far. It just looks damned amazing and having Hellknights and Imps on your case while hoofing it around the fire and brimstone is well worth getting Doom 3 for. Seeing Hell in a screenshot really doesn't do it justice. Hell seeing any part of Doom 3 in a screenshot is a pale example compared to the real thing. The review is on Mindlessgames and can be found within the reviews section of the site. Of course you can click on the Doom 3 Review linkage and go right to it. So go ahead and read the entire seven pages! By the way thanks to Phoebus for posting it up.

Todd Wants To See Your Tats
Todd Hollenshead posted in his .plan file that he wants to see your tats! This is an unofficial contest idea: Secondly, the subject of id-related tatoos came up during some water cooler talk last week. I've seen some pretty amazing ink on some folks: a guy has the Quake II invulnerability powerup tatooed across his back (shoulder to shoulder); the "stuck car mudwrestle girl" with the Quake 3 logo at the bottom of her back; a girl with interlocking Q-Q2-Q3A logos on the back of her neck; a guy with an ankle-to-knee Quake II logo, and there are several others. I know there must be a ton out there that no one here even knows about, but we think they're pretty cool, and might even be worth having a contest to get people to send us pics of their tats.
So, here's the deal: email me a genuine id-related tatoo photo of you or someone you know who has one. It's probably best to take a couple different pics if you can. Whoever has the best legitimate tatoo, judged in my sole discretion (with maybe some help from the team) will get one free copy of DOOM 3 + strategy guide + new "Making Of DOOM 3" book and I'll sign the game box for you. Now, I'm not trying to encourage people to go out and get a tatoo - this is supposed to be for those who already have one. If we get enough cool entries, the idea is that we'll compile and frame all the photos and put them in a big frame to hang on the wall here at id. That's a pretty good consolation prize if you don't get the game/guide/book. So if you have a current id related tatoo then give Todd an email which you can find in his .plan file plus some other info including the fact that some retailers will be selling Doom 3 for $39.99 this week.

Void Of Mercy Gets Axed
sLydE has decided to stop working on his Void Of Mercy project (a.k.a jDoom Zero Tolerance TC).Freeing myself from this project gives me time to work on Stroz.net, as well as work, school and my family. Eventually I'll get back into some other project, but probably won't announce it until it's nearly done. That will at least eliminate hype and expectations that so many projects (Doom or otherwise) end up gathering before they are cancelled. Visit Stroz.net to read the rest of what sLydE has to say about this subject.

Screenwriter Dave Callaham Doom Movie Interview
HomeLan Fed has an interview posted with Doom screenwriter Dave Callaham. They spoke with him briefly over the phone and they ask him about the script, characters and production stuffs. And what about those newly created characters? Callaham said that John, the Space Marine to be played by Karl Urban (best know as Eomer in the Lord of the Rings trilogy), is stationed along with his unit in a research base on an alien planet (the planet is unnamed in the movie unlike the games Doom and Doom 3 which are set on Mars). In the movie he is reunited with his sister, a scientist on the based named Samantha (to be played by Die Another Day villainess Rosamund Pike). They were separated after an accident that killed their parents and Callaham says, “They are a little estranged” However, strange things are afoot on the base as alien monsters begin to appear and both brother and sister have to put aside their differences in order to survive. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will also appear as Sarge, the head space marine, but Callaham warns, “He is not going to be smiling a whole bunch. You won’t see him raise his left eyebrow.” Go read the whole interview jobby.

Wraith Forge & Other Projects On The Megawad
After a long period of being update-slack on my own personal webspace I finally got around to fixing up 98% of The Megawad and actually got an update posted. There's a few minor pages missing (not sure what I'm doing there) but all my project stuff is geared minus a few screenies for minor maps I'm working on. Theres a page now for my Doom 3 map that I'm calling Wraith Forge including some screens. I was going to take updated shots of Wraith Forge but my map is ripped apart and I have a huge hole in it where I'm designing a big room and I need to be psyched to work on it more. Also I revived my HeXen II project so theres also a page for that and some new screenshots and I finally named the project. As for Vilecore II I'm just now starting to work on it again. I strayed a bit, played Doom 3, edited heXen 2 and Doom 3 etc.... busy, busy, busy.... Vilecore II will get done when its finished. It's good to take a break and do other projects and come back fresh and ready to kick some serious sector ass. Hit The Megawad and read the rest of my ramblings.

Wad Builder For Mac & Hellmaker Enhanced
sl4 dropped us a message that he made a program called Wad Builder, a tool designer for editing lumps on Mac OS X. Also he updated Hellmaker (after Paul disappeared) to make Hellmaker Enhanced. Here is the more word intensive explanation:The two or three Mac users who still play Doom might be happy to hear that there's now a way (albeit a primitive one) to edit lumps natively in Mac OS X! After fussing with REALbasic for way too long, I've finally got a basic program called Wad Builder which has two basic functions. It can decompile a wad file into a folder with a file for each lump and a file to keep track of the lump order, and it can take one of these folders and turn it into a functional wad again. While it doesn't have support for editing graphics and sounds, it's a basic solution that should allow you to put DeHackEd patches and FraggleScripts into your wads. I haven't tested it extensively, so if you have any problems email me!
And to go along with this, I have an update to Hellmaker Enhanced. After Paul strangely disappeared in 1997, work on Hellmaker ceased and the source code was never released. Hellmaker Enhanced is a ResEdit hack of Hellmaker 1.2b1 with support for Boom and Legacy line, thing, and sector types added. New in this version is Fragglescript line types. So there you have it. Visit his Ekim site for the download of Hellmaker. I don't see Wad Builder on his site but he provided this this direct linkage for that.
X-Doom Is Reborn
X-Doom updated the X-Doom site and has finally brought it back online after a month's time. He says that the new site has been optimised to be easier to update and viewing. Also note that ZD3K is comming! Exactly when this will happen is just a matter of time.

DM Pestilence
Toireht released a Doom 3 Multiplayer level called DM Pestilence (1.0) that is designed for Deathmatch. This is a medium-sized map that might you remind a Q3A map - the one that is plunged into a thick orange fog, though the latter ain't that thick in this one. It seems to be taking place in the remains of a wreck and its layout is arranged in the style of an arena. I find it well designed for the purposes of a multi player map, even if I was - initially - a bit surprised to see that the first floor lead to a dead end... until I noticed those small lifts scattered at two or three places in the map; they nearly share the same color as the walls so they ain't much visible. Go and hit this page if you want to check out the map.
