 Engine For New Doom
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 6:00 PM
Category: General

Jim Dose has posted this piece of information over at Stomped about the new Doom engine.
The engine is being completely rewritten, just piece-by-piece. Currently, the renderer, shader system, and game code are completely new. The cgame and network code have been removed. The animation system is currently being written from the ground up. The sound system and UI are still in place, but will be rewritten by Graeme and Robert when they are finished with the mission pack. At some point along the way, John will probably write a new network system.

So, even though we are not starting out with a blank sheet of paper, the final result will be a full rewrite.

 Doom Legacy Update!
 Posted by at 6:00 PM
Category: General

The guys at DoomLegacy have an update for ya, check this out!
DLW
Please welcome the arrival of Doom Legacy Wads site here on newdoom.com. The content is very good (even if I know some of you are still a little confused by the design). Something VERY important about glLegacy and *old* clipping problem (also know as "missing texture") is mentionned there: the use of the new (and really good, believe me) version of ZenNode for solving ALL the clipping problems you might encounter with the OpenGL version of Doom Legacy. Yes, you can believe it, this is THE solution to make your map 100% glLegacy compliant. Derek sent me words that Goldeneye Doom2 is even better optimized now that he discovered the new ZenNode. Of course ZenNode works great with other source ports as well.
Thanks to Marc Rousseau for the great job he did and thanks to Jive for letting us know that!

IRC
If you don't already know it by consulting the Legacy forum, the official IRC server for you DooM Legacy users has changed. Just point your IRC client to demongate.ath.cx:6667 an join the channel #doomlegacy. One more time, thanks to Salazar for managing that!

Legacy stuffs
Ok, I'll give you some short news about legacy itself. We are currently working on the next major version of it. Our tasks list shows the most important things we are working on. But before that, we should release soon a maintenance version based on Doom Legacy 1.30.x, available (at least) for Dos, Linux and Win32 (Mac, OS/2 and BeOS users, please be patient). This version will fix some bugs and improved the ease of use to start and connect to a Legacy server.

Stay tuned!
So there you go.. head over to their site if you're not familiar with what DoomLegacy is all about!

New Doom Wishes And Cyber Dreams!

Please welcome NewDoom's newest high-quality hosted site, Cyber Dreams! This is a site run by the Presage team, a great couple of Doom fans, with a lot to offer the community! Here's a description of the site:
The Présage-CyberDreams association resurrected in december 1999, a year and a half after the megawad was uploaded. At that time, we gave priority to three different purposes: a CyberDreams home page; a complete collection of speed demos through the megawad levels; and a compilation of new levels based on the CyberDreams theme.

Well, almost eight months later, 66% of that stuff has become a reality... so far.
Head to Cyber Dreams for more info!

Danok's Newest MDF / New Doom Files Section!
Posted by William 'Phoebus' Mull at 7:00 PM
Category: General

Danok added shotgun guy splatter to his newest MDF (v2.3b, for use with JDoom). He says this will be the last one for a while, as he
can't really do much more unless someone makes an md2 for the Archvile's fire attack (he tried and failed at that one), or fixes the way the Doom Marine is rendered. Send Danok an email at metzler@erols.com if you'd like a BMP of the 2D Archvile fire to use for refrence in making the model.

And, in case you were wondering, you can now find Danok's MDF (899KB) here within our awesome new Doom Files section!

Progress is being made on the DooM Squads section of New Doom. I'm thinking about scrapping the current layout and trying something different. Yesterday I bought Macromedia Flash 5. So, with luck, I'll learn the program, and I'll be able to produce some flashy (pun intended) material for New Doom. Until then, please e-mail me with any clan news that you have.
