 Carmack Talks Graphics
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 11:13 AM
Category: General

John Carmack has updated his Webdog .Plan and talks about Nvidia's NV30 and ATI's R300. Here is the first bit:
At the moment, the NV30 is slightly faster on most scenes in Doom than the R300, but I can still find some scenes where the R300 pulls a little bit ahead. The issue is complicated because of the different ways the cards can choose to run the game.
There is not really anything on the game itself but there is plenty on the technical side. So check it out here.

Update: I also forgot to mention they need Zdoom to run.

 Black Magic Rocket
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 10:33 AM
Category: General

Mr Rocket has released a two new maps called Black Magic. It's a Deathmatch level for use with legacy and contains lots of colored coronal lighting. Mr Rocket says that map02 is the same as map01 but feels a bit different. You'll have to get it to see what he is on about. There is also a bit of a problem when playing which is explained here:
There is a slight issue with the wad due to the way legacy fraggle script is handled with multiplayer , after the client connects to the server , the server host must restart the map in order to make the coronals look right to the client.. , e.g. type map map01 and press enter in the console after the all clients have connected and are in game..
You can get it from Mr Rocket' Homepage.

 Baldy's RTC-3057 Demo Review
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 12:47 PM
Category: General

Sarge Baldy's Hardass Doom Reviews has posted a review of the RTC-3057 Demo. Here is a Snippet
The first map in an extremely advanced and highly detailed ZDoom mod that has taken a long ass time to make has finally been released. The detail in this map is the best I've ever seen. Most of it could probably be overlooked, as this level strives more to be perfect than to be flashy.
Read the rest of this over at Sarge Baldy's Hardass Doom Reviews.

On top of the update by Deepsea there has also been an update to the ZDoom pages telling us that Zeth is now up to version 4.17. Here are a list of the changes from 4.16:
· Updated specialz.cfg file.
· Asks you for the IWAD's location if the one specified in the game's cfg is wrong.
· Suggests you edit or delete zeth.ini if it has an error.
· New misc menu options to find first free line ID and poly ID.
I also must point out that 4.16 was only released a few days ago. Get it at ZDoom.

 Deep 11.7
Posted by Jason 'FACE.UK' Sloan at 4:00 PM
Category: General

There has been a new release of Deep which, as you may have already gathered, brings it up to version 11.7. Here is a list of the highlights
· Expand your mind - HUGE level support: up to 64k linedefs, 64k sidedefs and 64k vertices

· New ZDOOM only options to write no NODES, REJECT or BLOCKMAP data. For HUGE levels this makes a tremendous difference in file size. ZDOOM will automatically create the nodes. The others lumps are not required for ZDOOM.

· New method to show selected or active lines. Easier on the eyes and easier to see what’s active. You can choose solid or dashed active lines. You can choose a different color for hovering colors vs selected colors. Set in F5 options.

· New DeePBSP with huge level support (if > 32k SSEGS use the new option below for ZDOOM)

· New ZDOOM only options to write no NODES, REJECT or BLOCKMAP data. For HUGE levels this makes a tremendous difference in file size. ZDOOM will automatically create the nodes. The others lumps are not required for ZDOOM.

· WIN2000 sector editing typo fixed that caused a crash in Win2000 for ZDOOM Hexen formatted levels.

· Added support for Legacy with BOOM enabled

· Added support for ZDOOM HERETIC HEXEN format support.
There is a complete list available and you can find this plus download links for the shareware version at SB Software, home of Deepsea.
