The HeXen: Edge Of Chaos was updated with an interview with Slash (concept artist and art-director of mapping). Here is a part of it:EOC: Describe the weapons, what weapon you will use the most and why?
Slash: Hmm.. the weapons will definately be "hexeney", with the return of some well known classics. In the original hexen i always enjoyed the sword, but i'm sure i'm gonna be using whatever weapon is appropriate for the given situation. Our goal is to make every weapon fun to use. Hit the HeXen: Edge Of Chaos site for more info on the Doom 3 mod and read the rest of that interview.

Carmack Frees Quake 3

Lets all visit Games Radar because they posted an interview with John Carmack who talks about resurrecting Quake III Arena as Quake Live, which will be Free.JC: Increasing the approachability of the game is one of the absolute top-level priorities here. If someone bought Quake III right now and found a game online, they would have a miserable experience because people playing the game right now are too skilled and experienced. We’re doing a few things to address that. Skill-based matchmaking is extremely important, so when you jump in, you’re going to be someplace appropriate. But we’re also adding things like bot-guided training levels offline. When you initially set up your account, you get to give the system an indication of what your skill level is. After a few matches, the game will see how you’re performing and adjust your choices. Read more right here.
A Map Called Axiom

I took a look on /id Games and Didy released a Doom 2, singleplayer map that is called Axiom. Here is what anonymous has to say about the map:This is a visually striking map with a novel visual theme that seems to blend elements of steampunk and Inca temple. It feels enormous and intricate, with lots of dark shadows. The gameplay is pretty good, with a steady stream of mostly low-intensity fights and not much health; most of the level's enjoyment comes from exploring and looking around though. Must have taken ages to make. Check out some Axiom over on /id Games.

Zap610 dropped me a message that Doom Connector 3 is finally back. After years of being offline, and being modified into different programs, Doom Connector 3 is finally back. However, it is no longer mantained by Codeimp. Doom Connector has all the features it once had such as creating/joining games with rooms, chat, buddy lists, sending messages, and more! It also supports the Skulltag and ZDaemon master servers, so you can join all kinds of games straight from the program. Take a look at this screenshot and hit the official Doom Connector site for more info.

Ismaele took the time this Month to review kobal by ShadowMan. Here is a portion of what he has to say about the level:Here is another single level .WAD from the same author of "Cheogsh": he shows again very good talent and this level has as high quality as the previous .WAD. There's no story behind it, but gameplay is good, a bit different from the classic one, because the author tends to create several puzzles, mainly based on switches and such, but they are well done. Also check out the screenshots of the map.

Over on Gamers With Jobs they posted up GWJ Conference Call Episode 89 which includes an interview with John Carmack. We're very pleased this week to have an interview with John Carmack! Sadly, he doesn't give us much on Rage, but saves the real rage for patent trolls and the influx of lawyers into the videogame business. John mostly talks about patents and if you want to zap to where they talk to him, move the slider to 1:07:00. You have the option to download the audio file or listen to it via the site, which I found streamed very fast. I'm still listening to it as I type the news on here, so I'm not sure what he says about Rage. You'll have to go listen for yourself to find out. One thing for sure, Carmack is always interesting to listen to.

Demonwars is a coop mod that sets up to 4 players (or bots) against the Doom 3 monsters. It is the year 2024: While the battle west vs east went out of control resulting in both factions using the most frightening weapons mankind could ever imagine, a thermo-nuclear bomb test performed secretly at Nevada's military desert base went terribly wrong... Apparently FMJ stands for Full Metal Jacket and Demonwars is an expansion for the mod.

Doomed Fan Fiction To Map Conversion Contest Challenge

Fatal has announced that a new contest has been posted up on the forum right here. Basically mappers are challeneged to design a sort of narrative map that is based on one of the choosen fan fiction stories.Your objective is to make a map based on one of the fan fictions that will shortly follow. Think of it as a game to movie conversion, just replacing the word “game” with “fan fiction” and “movie” with “Doom map”. You don’t have to follow the story precisely. Fill in the gaps of the story, make it playable (and possibly even… *gasp*, fun). Use the fan fiction as a source of inspiration. Just make sure that it’s somehow obvious which fan fiction you decided to base your map on. Be sure to read all of the rules and stuff right here.

Eight Years Of Newdoom

Eight years ago Phoebus launched Newdoom.com during a time when Doom 3 was first announced. It was shortly after the site came online that I discovered the forums while looking for news about a new doom game. I joined the forums with the Doom_Dude nick, with no idea that I would be stuck with it, that I would have my site hosted here, or that I would turn into a moderator for the forums and eventually a news guy as well. It's hard to believe so much time has gone by already, but it's been a great eight years and we've seen Doom 3 and Resurretion of Evil released along with the excellent Doom Builder and many excellent Doom wads like the Doom 64 TC and Knee Deep In ZDoom (just to mention a few) plus NDCP and the Community Chest wads.... I think the next eight years will be as interesting as the last and sometime soon (give or take a few years) we should see things like Doom Builder 2, NDCP 2, Legacy 2 and last but not least Doom 4..... and maybe even Vilecore 2! Thanks to Mr_Rocket and this thread for reminding me it's Newdooms b-day. Heh, I was just gonna post a blurb and ended up with all this text. Happy Birthday Newdoom!
