Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:51 AM
Category: id Software

Holy smokes it's New Years Eve and today we are going to take a look backwards to July when John Carmack (also Tim Willits + EA's David DeMartini are present) talked about the Rage EA deal, MAC gaming and PS3 Programming, all of which can be viewed in 4 videos right here over on Kotaku. Since I missed this one before it's getting posted now and thanks to Aliotroph? for message chucking it my way.

 ReX On Paranoid
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:54 PM
Category: DOOM

ReX appeared on Doom Nexus with information about Paranoid.
The game design encompasses a single, large area (just like Half-Life, on which Paranoid is loosely based), and requires the player to return to maps that have been previously traversed. I'd have to say that this is the most ambitious project I've undertaken in terms of game design (not to mention other aspects as well, including the use of 3D architecture, models, and enemies with new behavior).
Hit Doom Nexus to read more about what ReX is up to.

Mr Rocket chirped at me. He posted on the Megasphere that he has a Skulltag server runnin for a few days with some oldskool maps. This also brings up the fact that Skulltag, 97D3-RC1 was just released. So now would be a good time to downgrab the new version of the port and maybe pay Rocket a visit (more info on the Megasphere!)

 Classic Dooming Revealed
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:40 PM
Category: DOOM

Grimm sent me a PM to inform us that the Classic Dooming site is now online, which is a replacement for the old Grimm's Mini-Reviews.
Classic Dooming is devoted to categorizing and reviewing the levels in the online archives so that the community can have a reliable guide to assist them when they choose to peruse the archives. But right now, that goal is pretty far away. That's why we need YOUR help to accomplish it.
Check out Classic Dooming.

 Wolfenstein Christmas!
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:35 AM
Category: Wolfenstein

I'm afraid that some grinch has stolen all the Doom news.... but enough about that, It's Christmas! I hope everybody has a great Holiday and everything is going well. Ummmm, there is however something that you don't see all that often, Wolfenstein 3D news! Havoc7 posted on Mod db that he released the SDL version of Absence, a Wolfenstein 3D TC.
Absence is a Wolfenstein 3D TC with a new and dark storyline that includes a lot of new features that you've never seen before in a Wolfenstein 3D TC, like an experience system to upgrade yourself! Absence plays in a US underground lab called "Sigma Complex". This lab complex is primarily specializing in genetic and robotic experiments.
What the hell does SDL mean? You can also check out his Havoc's Wolfenstein 3D Page for more info. Cya later, I'm off to find me some beer, turkey and gifts.

 Service Rooms
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:26 PM
Category: DOOM

Service Rooms is a Doom 3, singleplayer mod that Psimorph released.
Service Rooms is a small but highly detailed Single Player level for Doom III which consists of three zones, each providing a challenge for your very survival.
Hit Doom 3 Files if you want to check out Service Rooms. By the way, the author says that the Russian version of Doom 3 is required but the level may still work in other versions, because the map contains a couple textures with Russian text or somethin'. heh.

 The Megawad Updated
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:39 PM
Category: DOOM

I decided to update The Megawad today with some info about Vilecore 2 and a smaller project that I'm calling UAC Starbase 6. I wrote some log files for both projects and posted a couple examples..
He moaned that something had attacked him in the tunnels and it was too dark to see so he ran. He told us we should seal the door so it wouldn't get through. I nodded to Reena and she punched the emergency lock on the door and we heard it snap shut. There was another tremor and some debris broke free of the cliff face and crashed in front of us. Suddenly there was a terrible rending noise and the door itself started to buckle and two shallow cracks in the ground opened up and appeared to fill with blood...
That's all I have to say for now. Check it out or not, I'm gonna bugger off now.

 Taking A Look At Doom...
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:07 PM
Category: DOOM

Zorx77 let me know that Big Download put up an article concerning Doom's 15th Birthday.
The art design for Doom was definitely not for kids. This game was designed to be played and enjoyed by a mature gamer who didn't flinch at satanic imagery and blood sprites.

 Happy 15th B-Day DooM!
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:39 PM
Category: DOOM

Aha! When I got home earlier I was still not clued in that it's actually Dooms birthday and then noticed Potnop posted on the forum. Earlier this year (or something) I had started a 15 Years of Doom map and it got neglected and eventually I totally forgot about it. Last time I did one of those maps it was Doom's 11th. Where does the time go to? Since my internet connection is basically fried and even google isn't loading all I can tell you is that Plutonia 2 Is Coming Soon.

 Dual Weasel Stuffs
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:46 PM
Category: DOOM

I just looked on the Doom Armory and WildWeasel posted a couple downgrabs for updated mods, one for the GZMecha Project and the other for Magnum Opus. Here is a bit on GZMecha...
This version is now actually playable! Most of the effects are in, weapons are fully usable and upgradable, pending some pretty major gameplay balance and the addition of the Alpha Strike module on slot 7. Also doesn't work in multiplayer (yet!).
Hit the Doom Armory!

X-Mass Comes On The 24th This Year
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:44 AM
Category: DOOM

Yesterday I put the tree up, cranked on the lights and this morning the ornaments got themselves on there. Now all I need is to stock up on snacks and get a few more beer, plus finish the gift searching.... then I might be ready for the big day. Time is flying or so it seems. Meanwhile, what is going on in the world of Doom and other assorted id Software stuffs? All I see, for now is this... Over on Mod db I spotted this X-Mass mod for Doom 3 that is scheduled for a December 24th release.
Your car has broken down and you're lost in a fog at some ass-end town. Something's not right and you find yourself fighting more than the typical Christmas Rush to get your sweetheart's gift - and yourself - home for the holidays.
Hit Mod db and get ready for X-Mass. So there you go, X-mass will be on the 24th, then Christmas on the 25th.... sounds good to me. Luckily my game machine is working fine, so Fallout 3 is calling!
