 Update On Phobos
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:53 PM
Category: DOOM

shaviro updated the Phobos site with the second DevBlog entry (I think I missed the first one from September) with info about new team members, weapons, helmet, water and maneuverability.
We didn't feel that the plasmagun had the same awesome kick & effect of the old games. The sound was a little tame and the plasma bolt looked plain and friendly. The plasmagun being the favourite weapon of certain members of the team, we decided to bring back the look, feel and sound of the old version. Expect to see a deep blue electrical cloud along with an updated version of the characteristic Doom plasma sound.
Be sure to hit the Phobos site and read more about the Doom 3 mod that is being developed by Team Future.

id On Rage And The Future On Edge
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:58 AM
Category: id Software

Over on Edge they posted all about Id On Rage And The Future where they talk with Todd Hollenshead and Tim Willits.
The company is still very small. We’re 60 people now – which is huge for us. But during development of Doom 3 the company was 26 or 27. So we try and keep it small; we don’t have a licensing department because we want to focus on making the games.
Have a look at Id On Rage And The Future...

Not much seems to be going on as far as Doom news goes so I hopped onto /id Games and Deadall released a 2 level, Doom 2 map designed for singleplayer that is called Gravity (limit removing port required - PrBoom-Plus with gamma 1 or GZDoom are recommended). Check it out or not, I'm off to do other stuff. Have a nice day.

Apparently John Carrizales Perfected Doom 3.
After almost four years to the day, John Carrizales has made a return, to update his popular SinglePlayer mod that has brought some serious gaming action to so many! The Perfected Doom 3 mod will add realism, better graphics, and so much more...I've been waiting a long time to get my hands on this!
According to the author this is the final release of the mod and the reviewer says the author listened to feedback. There's a lot of fixes and changes so it's best to hit the Perfected Doom 3 page and check it all out.

 Final Castle Clubenstein
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:51 PM
Category: DOOM

club sandwich released the final version of his Castle Clubenstein map that is designed for Doom 3 in a deathmatch flavor.
Not to worry, you won't be reduced to throwing rocks at your opponents, there are weapons located behind most of the doors...the trick is to stop running for your life long enough to collect them. This download is great if you're in the mood for some mindless violence...it's time to lock-n-load and get ready!
Check out Castle Clubenstein just don't expect to see any screenshots of the map on Doom 3 Files for some reason.

 Inside WildWeasel's Brain
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:08 PM
Category: DOOM

WildWeasel updated the Doom Armory with some info about a mod that only exists in his brain, which is called Johnny Seven.
Johnny Seven was a mod where you literally start with every weapon in the game built into the same gun. The only problem was, you didn't have any ammo for most of the functions except for the machinegun.
Hit the Doom Armory to read the rest of what WildWeasel is thinking about.

 Lets Hit The Nasa Site
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:40 PM
Category: General

And now for something completely different! Today we don't go to somebody's wad, or go to the forums, or check on some music.... blah... blah... blah... Instead we shall put a hit on the NASA site because they posted the image of the day gallery which includes a shot of Phobos that was captured by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. Now they figure that the moon is in fact Doomed..... seriously that's what the say. Read the quote.
Phobos orbits so close to Mars that gravitational tidal forces are dragging it down. In 100 million years or so, Phobos likely will be shattered by stress caused by the relentless tidal forces, the debris forming a decaying ring around Mars.
So there you go! I'm off to dig up more wacky and or mundane news things.

 I See Some PsychoPhobia
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:26 AM
Category: DOOM

I was on Mod db looking for mods to add to the Friday Mod post on Mindless Games and noticed this PsychoPhobia mod for Doom 2 was just released.
Psychophobia CM is a mod for the original Doom, Doom2, TNT, Plutonia and other maps. It includes all the stuff of PsychoPhobia (no maps) and replaces the original stuff in the original maps.
There's not much info about it over there and Cobalterix's site is in German (I think) but it looks from that site that GZDoom is required. Maybe there's more info in the download but I gotta run.....

After a short visit to Mod db I noticed that Darthshoot of the Just Doom mod for Doom 3, posted that they're looking for somebody who can create cutscenes.
At last we need two cutscenes. One scene is needed at the beginning and another one at the end. I can create the rooms the cutscenes are playing in.
Check out Just Doom on Mod db.

 Have A Flanagan
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:19 PM
Category: DOOM

Not much seems to be going on, so I looked at /id Games and TimeOfDeath released a singleplayer map for Doom 2 that is called Flanagan.
This is a modified version of sloth map03. It's a circular, symmetrical spam arena thing - again. FLAN - AGAN. It's designed for jumping, rocket jumping, and freelook, but you can get to the exit without using those things. It's not designed for crouching or bfg aiming.
Have a look at some Flanagan.

 City Of Zombies
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:22 PM
Category: DOOM

I was on Doom 3 Files and they have this City Of Zombies (alpha) map uploaded over there. The map is for Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and is brought to you by RobertDoom in a singleplayer flavor.
The name of this map says it all: City Of Zombies is just that...a city full of Zombies! If you're in the mood for some mindless intense action, or you feel that you need an outlet for some issues and have a want for some kind of stress reliever, then are you ever in luck!
Go frag the hell out of the City Of Zombies (alpha) or goof off like I'm doing.

 Rage Digital Distribution?
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:25 AM
Category: Rage

Some Rage info appeared on Shack News and apparently the game could get digital distribution after all.
"We have not written off digital distribution for Rage," Willits told 1UP. "We haven't figured out what we want to do yet. But I do want to fix the fact that John [Carmack] said [digital distribution is] not going to happen. What I'm saying is that's not true."
Although this is a rehash of what is in the 1UP article, it's interesting to read through the comments on Shack.

As the game begins, the first thing you need to do in this world is learn to survive on your own. Then you must work with the settlers against the bandits and mutants. Ultimately, you will align yourself with a small resistance group fighting against a mysterious force in the wasteland called the "Authority" -- a regime-like government bent on controlling everything.
