Over on Doom 3 Files there is a single player, Doom 3 map called Evacuation Protocol designed by thebkt.. Eight long weeks on the field... That's what they call Site1 these days. Everyone in the facility needs something to hang onto. For you it was the thought that you would actually return for some R&R after four weeks overtime. It's a long way from Marscity, let alone Earth, but it's a start. Take a look at Evacuation Protocol.

Carmack Says Something About Doom Film

Apparently over on Slashdot, John Carmack posted a few words about the Doom Movie.I had fairly low expectations, and there were even some plans in palce to guide me away from any press after the premier if I didn't like the movie, so I wouldn't say something "unproductive", but I was pleasantly surprised.
No, it isn't an oscar movie, but it definitely isn't Super Mario Brothers / Street Fighter / Double Dragon.
I do wish they had kept the true satanic / hellish theme, but I think they did a credible job with their alternate direction. That's all he had to say.. Anyhow like many others, I'm confused why they decided to nuke the Hell theme. Really, how can you screw up the Doom theme? Oooh lets get rid of Hell! Oh well, I haven't seen the film yet but I'm not sure if I even care anymore. Meh.

SciFi.com Reviews Doom Movie

SciFi.com checked out the Doom Movie and here is a shot of what they have to say about it:But why isn't hell explored like a "place" rather than a concept in the film? The game has hell as a level, but the movie goes into some convoluted explanation that involves soul, genetics and the existential philosophy of good versus evil that seems unnecessary. The monsters are rarely given good overall shots, and a lot of them are left mostly to our imaginations, which is frustrating. Here is the link to that Doom Movie Review.

Doom Movie Review On JoBlo

Over on JoBlo's Movie Reviews there just happens to be a review for the Doom Movie: Thankfully, the film’s visuals work like in the videogame, with lots of “atmosphere” providing us with a decent sense of the unknown, along with grungy musical tunes (yeah, heavy metal was the way to go…thank God they didn’t include any hip-hop shit), a handful of one-liners, the Rock’s charming charms and “serious looks” (and actual character development?!?), as well as a surprising amount of profanity, blood and icky guts, lifting the film a notch above its peer action-monster-kill movies. Here is the linkage to that Doom Movie Review.

Doom Movie Best Game To Film Adaptation Yet

Chris Carle of IGN went and geared up a Doom Movie Review and here is a shot of what he has to say about the film:Doom the movie makes a huge effort to stick to the things that make the game so popular: the first person perspective, the buckets of gore, and the gnarly weapons. These things are in abundance in the big screen adaptation, and they all delight. According to Chris this is the best videogame-to-film adaptation yet. Check out that Doom Movie Review.

Doom Move In Perspective

IGN puts the Doom Movie In Perspective by talking about the shots that show the first-person viewpoint. The view through the eyes of the movie's protagonist is indeed a big part of the film, and it's an effect designed to give the movie the same personal, claustrophobic feel the games have. That's all on IGN.

Resurrection Of Evil On XBox Review

I just noticed that GameZone has a review online for the XBox version of Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil. But what really makes this game shine, even though it feels a little on the short side, is the fact that both graphically and aurally, this is a terrific game that urges you to not play in the dead of night, with no lights on. It carries the thrills and chills in just the right amounts so they do not feel overdone. Take a reading from that review.

Doom 3 Files went and posted up a fan's review of the Doom Movie which was shown last week at the AMC AVCO Center in Westwood.Where to start. Well, Doom has nothing to offer people. The plot has more holes than the Iraqi desert. It never flows. A big deal has been made of the first person shooter perspective and that does not even make the movie worth it. It's just a bunch of monster shootings pasted together with jump cuts where half the time the monsters popup and pause, that way you have time to see them really good, and then they are shot. Grrrrr…Boom! Yeah, that's fun. Well that's one guys opinion and the rest of us will just have to wait and see for ourselves if the movie will be good, bad or ugly.. By the way, beware the spoilers in the article all of which can be read right here. It should be interesting to see a few more reviews of the film.

Put a hit on Doom 3 Files and check out Redwill Manor which is a SP map for Doom 3.A short single-player map with all new textures and (animated) models. I wanted to give it a totally different look than the maps you see in Doom 3. I got my inspiration from the movie Rose Red (Stephen King) and the Disney attraction "The Haunted Mansion". I love the feeling of those two and the Doom engine fits perfectly for this type of environments. Take a look at that Redwill Manor level!

Boingo released DeiMWolf 0.9.0 beta for Doom Legacy over on his Doom Legends site. This version is not yet complete. Many of the sprites, including all of the enemy sprites, have not been replaced yet, and are merely using enlarged copies of the original Wolfenstein sprites as temporary place keepers instead. The player’s weapon sprites have not been fully replaced either, except for a really bad render of an MP40, and a rescaled version of an MG34 from an ad for another game. The Statis bar is still the original from DooM. The mod requires the Ultimate Doom IWAD. Downgrab DeiMWolf!
