 Pillars Stuffs
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:34 PM
Category: DOOM

Not only did the Pillars site move it also contains a lot more content then last time I checked (not sure when that was exactly). So check out the media page for concept art, renders and in-game shots. Also they're looking for texture artists but you have to be near Stuttgart.

 Skull Tag 97D Beta 4.2
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 4:54 PM
Category: DOOM

I haven't done any Skull Tag news in awhile and I got a email from jib that Skulltag 97D Beta 4.2 was released recently.
As some of you are aware, 4.1 had a few serious issues that required our immediate attention. These errors allowed the remote crashing of both servers AND clients, something that we obviously could not allow to go on for very long. This hotfix fixes not only these problems, but some other serious issues such as the frequent crashes on servers running game modes such as LMS and survival.
Also Carnevil is back? Since they dropped their news page, I'm clueless. heh.

Hatomo Battles The Yomi Demons Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:22 PM
Category: DOOM

Ismaele updated his Outpost Of Doom II with a review of Hatomo battles the Yomi Demons by Pablo Dictter and Tobias Münch.
Most of the maps are linear, but the last ones get more complex, but they are never confusing. The pace of gameplay is never frantic, but it alternates (apparently) silent and empty areas with fights. Tricks and traps, like suddenly teleporting monsters and ambushes, enliven gameplay.
You can find that review right here and check out some screenshots right here.

 Carmack Comments On Linux Rage
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:20 AM
Category: Rage

Over on Slashdot John Carmack posted that id Software has no plans for a commercially supported linux version of Rage but a linux executable will most likely become available.
There is certainly no plans for a commercially supported linux version of Rage, but there will very likely be a linux executable made available. It isn't running at the moment, but we have had it compiled in the past. Running on additional platforms usually provides some code quality advantages, and it really only takes one interested programmer to make it happen.
That info is on Slashdot.

 UAC Franchise 666
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:05 PM
Category: DOOM

Map Factory has added iwantmore's UAC Franchise 666 to the site. The map is geared for singleplayer and has been updated recently by the author.
This is a mutch smoother reworked version of my original map # 2., "lift portal access". I've expanded the map area and fixed all of the bugs and lag that I had in the last release. Lighting is better, tons of detail added, Visportals all work, more tips, fixed some GUI's, FPS is up! Please let me know if you find any other problems in this map. I'm going to start on the rebuild for map #1 next. I know that one needs a lot of work...
Check out UAC Franchise 666.

 Steve Nix Interview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:01 PM
Category: Rage

Next Genertaion took the time to talk with Steve Nix of id Software about Rage and id Tech 5 in this interview.
So just how many licensees is Nix looking for with id Tech 5? “Millions,” he jokes. That would be quite a contrast to id’s previous engine from Doom 3, which was only licensed for Prey. Clearly, it was a less aggressive position in the licensing business.
Be sure to read both pages of that interview.

Tango reported on The Spiffcave that a group of Doomers put together another 32 in 24 megawad that is made for Capture the Flag.
I showed up near the end of the day, giving me just enough time to make a small, Scythe 2 Map11 ripoff map. Earlier today, I was able to play most of the maps with Shaikoten, Killingblair and a few others, and it was a blast.

 Double NG (v2.5d) For RoE
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 4:43 PM
Category: DOOM

Holy smokes it's September already! Errrr anyways Dafama2K7 has been at it again and this time he updated Mausus Atlas's mod (with permission of course) and released Double NG (v2.5d) for Ressurection of Evil.
This mod makes the game more nervous and stressful, by adding lots of new features. There is no place for beginner, the default parameters makes the game as hard as possible without to be impossible to play. The continous spawn monster feature does not allow relax time and you must always run and kill to survive because the monsters never appear at the same place. This mod is a good challenge for all elite player for single and multiplayer game. All the features are done to make the game more tense and more scary, just to taste the strongest adrenalin ecstasy moment during playing. Of course, for trainning, the parameter values can be changed to play this mod easier, making it completely customizable.
Version 2.5c for the core game can be found right here.
