A Doom 3 Double

Andy Mahood of Gamespy wrote an article that's a kind of spotlight on two Doom 3, single player mods with plans to mention other DOOM 3 mods in future columns. Anyways he first talks about Chung's Pathways Redux and here is a clip:The first half of Redux is also downright cerebral compared to most DOOM 3 mods. Puzzle solving is key to advancement, and the absence of any serious gunplay (combined with the wonderfully spooky music) builds relentless tension as you progress towards the violent end-game sequence. Secondly he talks about T-Lab Complex which is designed by Kaiser and here is quote from that bit: It doesn't take long for the bad guys to sense your presence, and from about the five-minute mark on, you'll begin expending so much ammo that your trigger finger will likely cramp up. If you want to read more, then go read A Doom 3 Double.

Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil For XBox Preview

IGN posted a hands-on preview for the Xbox version of Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil and here is a snip from what they have to say about it:The single player demo we worked our way through was brief, but highlighted some of the game's new features. In RoE you'll take control of a marine who discovers the mysterious Artifact somewhere underneath Mars' surface. We started out in control of a pistol and the Artifact, though the latter wasn't usable yet. It was a very welcome surprise to see that the flashlight had been strapped to the underside of the pistol, negating the ridiculous flashlight / weapon switching that was necessary in Doom 3. Take a look at that preview that is two pages of info.

John Carmack In Game Informer Magazine

Game Cloud posted up some info that was in the latest print of Game Informer Magazine regarding an interview with id Software's John Carmack. The interview covers various stuff like a Doom 3 Super Edition for PS3 (which is just an idea they're thinking about), opinions on the Doom Movie and his Doom RPG Cell Phone Game. While other sites seem to think the possible PS3 version of Doom 3 to be the most interesting, I personally was more interested in the fact that Carmack said any possible Doom game sequel would not likely have id's direct involvement and anouther developer would get the chore of making the game, just like Raven Software is now making Quake 4. That's not a direct quote by the way... and to read the full interview you'll need to buy the magazine.

Sematary let me know that he reviewed a Sh*tbag level that is called Purgatory at 3:00 AM and is designed for Doom 2 and the ZDoom port. Here is a small quote from the review:The intricacy of the detail here is astounding. Take some time to look around in between battles. It is unbelievable how realistic Ray can render a map. It's kind of scary really. Every minute detail seems to be taken care of here. That is all on Doom Wad Station.

Gamespy Infiltrates Doom Movie

Those Gamespy sneaks infiltrated the Doom Movie set back in January and now have a lot to say about the development of the film:Even in our own interviews regarding movie, mixed messages have been the norm. When we first arrived at the Prague shoot this January, we asked if much iconography from DOOM 3 would be used in the movie, and were told not to expect much... but upon walking onto the set, we found ourselves in a reception area complete with a UAC logo lifted directly from the game. Every set detail, from color schemes down to text designs mimicking the game's interface, seemed inspired by id Software's creation, and yet several members of the production team seemed to downplay it. The biggest shock came with the release of the teaser trailer in August: after all sorts of explanations about why Mars was dropped in favor of an unnamed planet, we couldn't help but stare dumbfounded at the opening frames: PLANET: MARS. Go forth and read all three pages of the On Location With: DOOM: The Movie article.

The map has seen a ton of changes, fixes and additions, which include new secret areas and textures. Anyhow hit The Megawad if you want to look at the 'floor-plan' design from Doom Builder's perspective.

Apparently this Slasherama joint has a Doom Movie Interview with Executive Producer John Wells. How many people on the cast and crew were fans of the game?
John: "All of them. I don't think anybody didn't know the game. So we were all very concerned that we make sure that it was exactly the kind of experience that we remembered so fondly from the game: turning the lights off at midnight, cranking it up and scaring the hell out of yourself!" I figured this would be interesting for Doomers so I'm gonna post it here.... If you thought Wolf3D or Doom was the first FPS then think again or just read this particular article that Computer Games Magazine posted. If you think id Software created first-person 3D gaming, think again: In the early 1970s, a group of engineers created a game known at various points as The Maze Game, Maze Wars, or simply Maze. It was a networked, first-person shooter with 3D graphics, and this is its story. Take a look at that article.
