Doom 3 Is Not For Kantor
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:14 AM
Category: DOOM

Apparently this Kantor guy has explained on his site Why Doom 3 Sucks.
Doom 3 looks good, yep. But that's it. The graphics and sound are excellent. But the gameplay is pathetic: Enter room, monsters attack you, kill them. Repeat.
Thanks to Rendo for sending in this news dealie.

New Section On Doom Wad Station
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 4:37 PM
Category: DOOM

Bob Larkin sent me an email that reveals a new Classic Doom Wads section on Doom Wad Station. Here is what Bob has to say about the new area:
Basically, reviews are being posted on maps that were created shortly after the release of Doom - 1994 and 1995 only - before the release of Doom2. There are a ton of maps from this era which deserve more than a simple space on the archives. They deserve to be given the place of reverance that the original mappers have earned. I hope everyone enjoys the new area and if anyone is interested in reviewing some of these classic maps - please email me at interleave1 and let me know of your interest. Reviewers must have decent writing skills and the ability to write a review that people can understand.
That is all on Doom Wad Station.

You can view that video right here. Note that you'll have to watch an advert first before you get to see the interview footage. Thanks to Aliotroph? for sending me the news.

Go sneak up on the DarkWiki.

 ZDoom 2.1.0 Released
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:16 PM
Category: DOOM

ZDoom 2.1.0 was released with various bug fixes, improved DECORATE features and custom weapon support.
And, yes, you once again have the option of keeping your items when you die in cooperative play, just like in 2.0.63a. But now it really is an option, so you can still punish yourself with a pistol start after death if you like that sort of thing.
Go downgrab the new ZDoom.

 Recall To Hell Screenshots
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:52 PM
Category: DOOM

Doom 3 mod site Recall To Hell was updated with some new screenshots that show new monster designs and levels.
The Dark Beast skillfully uses its abilities to extinguish all electrical machinery, creating a large area of total darkness around itself. Even your battery-powered flashlight can't withstand the effect. The only thing you are left to rely on are meager magnesium flares and those heavy footsteps, echoing through the dark, growing closer by the second...
Lots of snazzy looking stuff to look at, so go forth and check those screenshots.

The id Sofware Wiki On Doom Wad Station
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:44 PM
Category: General

Bob Larkin says that he's added the id Software Wiki to Doom Wad Station.
Since it is brand new it is pretty much devoid of any information but what I'm hoping is that the community will chip in and start adding pages to the Wiki. Subject matter can be anything from Hovercraft to Quake 4 but mostly (of course) I am looking for people to contribute mainly Doom information. Pages can also be created for specific user created projects with links to appropriate downloads (of course).
That is on Doom Wad Station.

Tormentor667 Interview & Level Reviews On Doom Wad Station
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:05 PM
Category: DOOM

The Doom Wad Station was updated with an interview with Tormentor667 that you can read right right here. Here is a snip:
Sematary: Which do you consider your best?

Tormentor: As my latest projects aren't released yet, I consider TNT3 as my best map so far. It had new and innovative stuff in the time it came out, no other map had (for example new monsters without overwriting old ones) and it was the map I put the most work in, the most amount of new ideas I had so far... it's old, partially full of bugs but it is still one of the coolest things I have released so far!
Also on Doom Wad Station is a couple new reviews. First up is a Doom 2 level called Spaced and then there's Darkroom which is anouther Doom 2 level. Check all that stuff out.

 Get Your Napalm Guns
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:47 AM
Category: DOOM

Sometimes when you're fighting demons Doom 3 style you could use some Napalm Guns to help you out even if the enemy has them too.
This mod gives napalm guns to the player and monsters. Each napalm round consists of a bullet and a napalm capsule. The bullet does all its damage immediately upon striking a target. The napalm capsule ignites upon striking a target and causes damage as long as it is burning. The bullet and napalm capsule separate in flight and may not strike at the same place.
Check out Napalm Guns over on Doom 3 Files.

 Brilliant Highlights (0.60b)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:08 PM
Category: DOOM

Brilliant Highlights (0.60b) is a modified shader for Doom 3 and RoE which enhances the appearance of lights and bumpmaps. It certainly looks worth downloading going by the screenshots. By the way the ATI Radeon X1000 series of video cards have a problem with the shader just so you know. That's on Doom 3 Files.

TheHive Moving To Doom 3 Engine
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:08 PM
Category: DOOM

I noticed while visiting ModdB that ShinraJXX has decided that TheHive 1.3 will be for Doom 3. Previous versions of the mod were made for Half-Life 2.
Since dheat.co.uk was attacked and, TheHive mod and backups were damaged i have decided to remake the mod on the DOOM 3 Engine. Currently i have been working my ass off as it seems to be quite easy. The main reason i have decided to move to the DOOM3 engine is that ive seen a lot of HL2 CO-OP mods poping up recently and is there any point in going for the HL2 style?
Check out VenShinra Co-Op for more info on the Doom 3 version. Also see the official site for the TheHive.

You work for SpaceTime Technologies, an earth-based corporation exploiting exotic matter for wormhole travelling.  Kiltron Re-Releases Trite Breeding Facility
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:07 PM
Category: DOOM

Kiltron released Trite Breeding Facility Plus which is a re-release of the map of the same name minus the 'Plus' bit.
This is the extended version of the first community released DOOM 3 map, Trite Breeding Facility. I have added a whole new section to the D-Sector which was a door that was just there for the sake of making the facility look larger. Now you can explore this area, which also extends the gameplay to somewhen between 45' ~ 1hr depending on your gaming skills.
That's all available on Doom 3 Files.
