Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:40 PM
Category: DOOM

spunky13 released Annihilation (3.2) for Doom 3 over on Doom 3 Files.
Well here is the 3.2 version of Annihilation... It wasn't supposed to come out until 3-4 weeks later because of a movie we were making but we decided that we would release this version before we started on the movie. Also my server has Auto DL for this mod so if you have it already i would get this because it has extras in it... and screenshots... and other cool stuff i guess. Anyway i hope you enjoy this version more than 3.1.
That is all on Doom 3 Files.

Scream For Dawn Of The Dead Screens
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:31 PM
Category: DOOM

I just noticed that the Dawn Of The Dead mod site for Doom 3 was updated and they added a bunch of new screenshots.
Here is some screenshots of the second map of the mod. The first map is pretty much the same level but not wrecked. The mapper working on these goes by the name of Janova and mainly works in the CoD community so its nice to see a different style of mapping here.
Check out those Dawn Of The Dead screens!

It's been ages since we heard anything from the Doom Legacy coder we all know as Hurdler who has resufaced after being busy working with Ubisoft and just posted in this forum thread.
If you wonder how is going my work at Ubisoft, everything is fine. I can finally tell you I work on "Rainbow Six: Vegas" (screenshots here). So be sure to buy your copy once it goes to stores so I can have my bonus lol.
Maybe we can have a bonus of Doom Legacy 2.0 sometime..... ;) Well he did say he was gonna look at the code from time to time.

 Todd Hollenshead Interview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:00 AM
Category: General

Johanna Juntunen of the Herald Sun put some questions to id Software's Todd Hollenshead, who talks about the Doom Movie, the success of Doom, the next Wolfenstein and a blurb about Doom 4.
When is Doom 4 coming out?

That's a tough question. It's not in development at this point. But you can play the game on your mobile phone, and that is the next Doom for us.
Go read that interview.

Two New Reviews On Doom Wad Station
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:01 PM
Category: DOOM

Doom Wad Station has a couple new reviews posted up. The first review is for a Doom 2, deathmatch map that is called Battlefield. The reviewer (Bob Larkin) has this to say about the level:
It is a smallish fragfest that is best suited to two players in my opinion but could be interesting with four, which is the number of total dm spots in the map.
Also Blue Paladin reviewed Bloody Isle which is a Doom 2, singleplayer map that is best played if your into the puzzle figuring dealie.
But, once you find your way onto the island that's floating on a sea of blood, the head peeling begins.
That stuff is all on Doom Wad Station.

 Facing Hell Screenshots
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:58 PM
Category: DOOM

Was just lurking around and found this Facing Hell mission pack for Doom 3. They recently updated with some new screenshots that look pretty snazzy.
In FH, we continue the story of original Doom 3 and surprise the player with a deep story, that tells the truth about the origin of all evil and hell. The player will discover some interesting things about the UAC, their artefacts from the archeological excarvation on mars and the weird network of evil thoughts and research that leaded to where we are now: a neverending painful mission for the Doom Marine.
Take a tour of Facing Hell.

 Interview: John Romero Part II
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:09 PM
Category: General

Computer and Video Games posted up the second part of thier in-depth John Romero interview. Here is a bit from the Daikatana era:
John Romero: Absolutely. At that point I thought that all the games I had been playing - including my games - were the same. In a lot of the games you see the enemy you met in the first level placed in the last level of the game. A lot of those games such as Dark Forces, Hexen, had followed the same design paradigm. I wanted to break out of that - to do more. The idea with Daikatana was let's do something different, but four different times! To have a lot of different stages where you still have to learn new things as a player - they're excited because on level eight, you get new weapons, new monsters - it's a brand new world. That'd be "Wow!" - a real rollercoaster for the player, plus the whole sidekick thing. I just think that the execution wasn't what I'd hoped for - something new and fun.
Check out that Interview: John Romero Part II which is 3 pages of info.

 The Evil No More
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:03 PM
Category: DOOM

Apparently The Evil mod for Doom 3 has gone down the tubes.
"The Evil" mod for DoomIII unfortunatly has been cancelled due to time constraints on myself and the rest of the team. Its a great pity as the mod was already playable and shaping up nicely. There has been no work added to the mod for 6 months now and its unlikley the project will be picked back up.The only concelation is that a lot of the art assets will apear in other mods.I may even release reworked parts of the mod as single player missions for doom3..
That's not good news :/

 Carmack Gets Lifetime Achievement Star
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:35 PM
Category: id Software

Gaming Age reported that John Carmack to receive Lifetime Achievement Star on Walk of Game. Apparently that already took place on Thursday.... heh.
Among his many accomplishments, rendering technology developed by Carmack stands at the forefront of gaming evolution. Since 1996, id Software’s technology platforms, including the QUAKE series of engines and the DOOM 3 engine, have been used in nearly 100 products and accounted for more than 30 million units and well over $1 billion of game industry revenue worldwide.

 Artifact Remix Soundpack
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:15 PM
Category: DOOM

Shadow Dancer 88 made this Artifact Remix Soundpack that change the sounds of the artifact in Resurrection of Evil.
This is a pack of three revised sounds for the Artifact in RoE that are designed ot make Helltime and the other powers more unsettling to use. Inspired by the Berserk helmet in Doom3, the normal, soft swirling sound of Helltime has been overlaid with violent, horrible screaming. The sound for entering helltime is a painful shout, and the exit helltime sound is a sort of gasp as you are ripped back to reality.
That's all on Doom 3 Files.

 Ninja Tournament 1.0
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:05 PM
Category: DOOM

Ninja Tournament (1.0) is a sword fighting simulation for Doom 3.
As with any sword, the quality of the weapon is the most important factor (just remember what a Hatori Hanzo sword can do...), so, you should take proper care to select your weapon (i.e. the mouse), as bad weapons either don't have a good grip, or don't react very well to quick swings...
That's all on Doom 3 Files. For more info check out the Ninja Tournament site.

 Mycelo's Weapon Enhancement (1.08)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:50 PM
Category: DOOM

Mycelo released Mycelo's Weapon Enhancement (1.08) mod which is available over on Doom 3 Files.
I made this mod to have another trip in DooM3 official levels with better weapons and effects, but without messing around the coherency of the game as most mods do. I tried to make the weapons look, sound and feel more powerful, however, the overall difficult level wasn't changed too much. There's no magic powers, super weapons or exaggerated dramatizations. Nothing seems out-of-place. All weapons keep their original behaviour along with newer features. All parameters were cautiously tested and adjusted to keep the general balance.
Also note that the author states that the mod is made for single player and won't work with multiplayer and it requires DooM3 1.3 for Windows and may not work on other versions.

 John Romero Interview Part I
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:06 PM
Category: General

Computer and Video Games talked to John Romero in this Interview where he talks about working at id Software for the most part.
John Romero: About four months after starting id, Carmack said "I want to work on some 3D polygon stuff," so our designer went and came up with an idea called Hover Tank. It was a really big challenge to make in 3D, but Carmack did it - this was May 1991 and we had our first first-person view game. John then created his own texture-mapping technology in six months, to allow us to place an artist-drawn texture on a polygon - the result being Catacomb 3D, which was pretty much lost to the world because it was published by SoftDisk and hardly anyone saw it.
Expect to see part II of the interview posted next week.

 GtkRadiant 1.5.0 Beta - Build 03-02 Released
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:21 PM
Category: General

If you hit the Radiant site you'll notice that they released GtkRadiant 1.5.0 beta - build 03-02.
There have been many improvements made since the last build more than a year ago, making this build a worthy replacement for 1.4.x. If all goes well with this build, 1.5.0 will be declared stable.
If you happen to be into editing Doom 3 you may want to grab the new version of Radiant or wait to see if it's a stable release or not...

 Event Horizon
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:19 PM
Category: DOOM

Scythe Wraith released Event Horizon, which is a Singleplayer level for Doom 3.
After having D3 sitting on the shelf for a year I decided to give the editor one more try. I'm certainly glad I did and am happy to bring you my first mod for D3, and one of my bigger projects I've put together in a long time. At first when I built this scenario for Aliens vs Predator it was quite interesting, now however with a full set of tools and a better rendering platform for this mod, I am pleased to present you with my newest incarnation of my Event Horizon game level scenario for Doom 3.
That is all on Doom 3 Files.
