 High/Low 2 Released
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:11 AM
Category: DOOM

Chris Hansen updated The DooMer's Recess with the info that he's released High/Low 2 that is designed for Doom, singleplayer.
After having warmed up with "High/Low 1" I felt like returning to a style too few wad authors touch: Namely the episode 2 style! I only wish I had made more E2 maps because it really appeals to me and I always feel like there is a lot more room for certain tricks and traps in these maps. There is of course also the artistic challenge of trying to make sense of a map that seems so messy in all those different textures.
You can downgrab that wad off of his Levels page. Also check out the level on Wads In Progress.

 Alternate Ending For Doom 3?
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:07 PM
Category: DOOM

Script02 is a map for Doom 3 that provides an alternate ending to Doom 3.
This is the starting map for Our Alternate Ending to Doom 3. As of now it only has basic level design. And we have posted this to ask of peoples assistance with ideas for the architecture for this map. Any other Ideas such as scares for the game would also be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately that's basically all the info and they don't seem to have a website for this stuff. otherwise visit Doom 3 Files if you happen to want to check this thing out.

 Commander Doom (v1.1)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:52 PM
Category: DOOM

Commander Doom (v1.1) for Doom 3 is now available over on Doom 3 Files.
The goal of each game is to successfully destroy the enemy base(s). To destroy the enemy base, you will need to locate the generators, and destroy them (make sure to hit the generators at their weak spot). ...Sounds pretty easy, eh? (If you just answered 'yes', boy, are you going to be surprised!
Take a look at Commander Doom (v1.1).

Enter Maggot Wood if you dare. The deeper you go, the more dangerous it gets. Leave at any time but your score is based on number of monsters plus how deeply you penetrated the woods.
That level is on Map Factory.

Hell On Earth: The Invasion Of Karr Revealed
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:20 PM
Category: DOOM

Hell On Earth: The Invasion Of Karr is a Doom 2, singleplayer project that I found while visiting Mod DB.
You are Corporal Doran, a soldier of the UAC Marines. You have heard of the one marine who took back Mars. You sit and wait on Earth, and then, something happens. The radio blares out, by the sound of gunshots and screams. "Great, Outpost Beta has been taken over." You head off to the armory, and open the gun locker and take out your prized possession, your 9mm pistol.
The homepage for the mod leads to this Shell Open GL site that is some kind of Doom port I never heard of before. I don't see any downloads or info about when or if it'll be available, plus the Karr project has less info on there than the Mod DB site.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:40 PM

I was on the Mod DB site and noticed Doom: Lucions Undoing which is being designed to bring back Doom multiplayer using the Sauerbraten engine.
We are bringing back Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture The Flag. With this in mind we will guarantee to bring back the classic enjoyment and restore the former glory of future Deathmatch's.
Take a look at that Doom: Lucions Undoing project.

 Test The Mystery Co-op Megawad!
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:57 AM
Category: DOOM

Over on the Parker Information Resources site they report that they completed a 32 level megawad designed for co-op play and are looking for playtesters.
We're testing here in Doom Legacy, and it's working well. They're small levels designed specifically for co-op play. DM will work, but we built this for 4 man all nighters, shooting monsters, not each other. If you want to play, send a note with you system specs, cause if you don't, that'll be the first question we'll ask.
Yeah so if you want to help out testing this 'mystery' wad you can find an email to hit on the Parker Information Resources site.

 Doom 3 Patch v1.31 Released
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:11 AM
Category: DOOM

I spotted on Worthplaying that id Software has released a patch that updates Doom 3 to version 1.31 for win32/Linux/Mac OSX and adds things like Vista compatibility and cross-platform multiplayer compatibility with the Mac. The good thing about Worthplaying is they post all the patch info which you can read right here. Also check out the Timothee Besset .plan file on Blues where he posted the patch info and also the id FTP links for the files.
There is nothing major in this update, but we had accumulated various fixes and improvements over recent months
and we felt it was worth putting a new release out. We've been testing the game under Vista, and we're also
bringing back cross-platform multiplayer compatibility with the Mac (the installer was contributed by Aspyr[1]).
Here are some links for getting the downgrab: Worthplaying, FileShack and 3D Gamers.

Make It To Morning 5: Alcatraz
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:54 PM
Category: DOOM

Over on Map Factory there's a Doom 3, singleplayer level called Make It To Morning 5: Alcatraz that's designed by ColdT.
You arrive at Alcatraz Island by boat with the shotgun and grabber. Collect additional weapons and kill all the demons infesting the prison.
Beware: when it gets dark, all hell breaks loose. You can exit at any time but your score is based upon the length of time you stay and the number of demons you face plus a bonus for making it to morning and a skill level multiplier. Beat this...
Ummm Map Factory has that tagged as a deathmatch level but it certainly doesn't sound like one. heh.
