 Singularity Complex & IC 2005
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:22 PM
Category: DOOM

I was just on Wads In Progress and there is a couple new(ish) releases that should be worth a downgrab and a play. First of all The Flange Peddler finished IC2005 which is a Doom, Singleplayer level designed for Boom. Nextly Jan Van der Veken released The Singularity Complex which is a Doom, Singleplayer episode of 9 maps that requires a limit removing port to run. If for some reason, you happen to be one of the unlucky sods who can't get on WIP, then grab IC 2005 right here on /idgames and for The Singularity Complex you can just hit the Classic Episode II site and get the full meal deal.

 Demon Aquarium Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:52 PM
Category: DOOM

Bob Larkin who we all know runs the Doom Wad Station went and reviewed a Doom 2, Singleplayer wad called Demon Aquarium.
Well, Played and conquered what could conceivably be one of the most difficult and deceptive maps I've played in quite some time. Why deceptive? Because it seems so easy at first and quickly becomes a bloodbath - using YOUR blood. If you play nothing else today, play this.
Check out Demon Aquarium!

Category: DOOM

The Dark Mod site was updated and apparently they have rope arrows working in the game.

They also report that they have the short sword working as well plus theres new Screenshots to check out. Thanks to iori for sending in the news.

 Freedoom 0.4 Unleashed
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:46 PM
Category: General

Jon dropped me a PM to let us all know that Freedoom version 0.4 has been released. Jon sayeth:
Freedoom is the project to create free (as in speech) replacements for the doom resources, to complement the game engine (which is available under the GPL). This is the first release in over a year: it was due on 25th Dec but slipped a few days, due to my inexperience of Fraggle's crazy build system.
Version 0.4 of Freedoom features updated versions of E1M1 and E1M8, new map04 plus new sound effects and alot of other work, which should make future releases more straightforward. So go grab your fav port, get the Freedoom downgrab and get into the game.

 Last Man Standing Interview
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:56 PM
Category: DOOM

Cali Girl of Lady Gamers took the time to Interview Calimer of the Last Man Standing mod for Doom 3.
I think we have far surpassed our original goals for the mod. We have added in a lot of new features, especially Single Player Cooperative support and ROE (the Doom 3 expansion) Cooperative support. Also all of the new weapons, Infrared and content really goes beyond our original concept. I think that the multiplayer element is huge as I personally think that it is much more fun to play with and/or compete against other human beings. You cannot directly kill other players in LMS Coop (unless friendly fire is enabled), but you can try to outscore them in our Killfest maps.
Go read the rest of that Interview.

 Update On Doom Wad Station
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 1:15 AM
Category: DOOM

On Doom Wad Station today (or thereabouts) not a creature was stirring, unless you count Bob Larkin who posted five more total conversions to his total converstions area for Doom and Doom2. The five conversions are Quake2, Duke 3d, Chex and Chex2 as well as Heretic. Make sure to check those conversions out on the Total Conversions page. Finally, Bob also released the review for a multiple level Doom 3 map called Ultimate Hell. According to the review:
These are a very difficult set of maps, especially the final battle type maps. In the fourth map you are deposited into a room full of Hell Knights. Appropriately enough the map is called "Knightmare". I hate to admit it but I ended up using the "God" cheat to get out of it. I finally tired of getting my ass kicked consistently and constantly.
You can check out that review here and the rest of the doom3 maps and more here. Finally, Bob has reworked his main page on Doom Wad Station. Apparently the appearance is much more professional and allows the visitor to more easily navigate the site from the main page.

 UAC Franchise 666
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:33 PM
Category: DOOM

Doom 3 Files has a singleplayer mod that is called UAC Franchise 666 (2.3 Beta) that is made by iwantmore.
You are a highly decorated, combat tested marine, who just happens to have a problem with authority. Your last mission went badly because of the dumb-ass, green-horn, college-boy lieutenant who was in charge of the mission. Your whole squad was KIA during the mission, and you barely made it out alive.
That's all on Doom 3 Files.

 Newdoom Community Project Release Delayed
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:57 PM
Category: Hosted_Ports

Due to not getting the playtesting quite finished on the NewDoom Community Project, I decided not to release it as previously planned on the 24th. The release date has been pushed forward to Jan 1st and the playtesters are working to get everything checked out properly before we release the megawad. Currently I'm also trying to get the final screenshots posted on the site as the olde ones needed updating. I'll be adding new shots whenever I have time and I have several up now, so check those out. Soon it'll be all set for download. 9 days really isn't that far away...

 Doom Movie Review
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:29 PM
Category: Other Stuff

Take a walk over to Boomtown where they posted up a Doom Movie Review.
The acting between Urban and Pike initially feels a little bland and unconnected but as the film crawls along their relationship grows. You begin to see Reaper care about his sister and vice versa. So when the action finally heats up it is these two and Sarge who you really care for the most.
Take a look at that Doom Movie Review.

 Classic Doom 3 Update Patch
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 11:29 PM
Category: DOOM

According to Doom 3 Files there's an update patch for Classic Doom 3 1.0.
This zip contains the 1.0 code builds for both linux and mac. Windows, Linux, and Mac users need to download this and put both .pk4's into your "cdoom" directory otherwise you will not be able to play Deathmatch due to receiving a "server not in sync" error. If you are a Linux and Mac user also make sure you keep the "cdoom_dll.pk4" in your directory as well for the same reason.
Downgrab that Update Patch.

 556mm Full Metal Jacket Beta
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:44 PM
Category: DOOM

Somebody named Oneofthe8devilz released a Doom 3 mod that is called 5.56mm Full Metal Jacket over on Doom 3 Files.
I always wanted to create a shooter that combines the awesome looking graphics of Doom³ with a more tactical game play. I hope I will succeed in melting those two things together and enrich the Doom3Community with a Mod that hopefully will find his lovers.
It's a beta, but looks pretty good from the screenshots, so maybe it's worth a downgrab before it's finished.

 Todd Hollenshead Talks Doom Movie
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:14 PM
Category: Other Stuff

Twitch Guru had a talk with id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead on the Doom Movie.
Todd Hollenshead: Well the rights for the movie option were licensed for the very first time back in '94-'95. Following the success of Doom 2, there was Hollywood interest in making a movie out of Doom 2, but there were a number of circumstances that frustrated the process. There was Columbine, which was an issue; there was an issue of us not having the right people engaged in the process from a producer standpoint.
So check out that article that's entitled id Software's CEO Talks Up Doom the Movie. Also note that they also have plans for a Wolfenstein film.
As for going forward with our own plans, our next order of business is to try to get Wolfenstein made into a movie; I think it could make a very interesting film. The game design for Return to Castle Wolfenstein is basically set up as a film script.
That is all on Twitch Guru.
