zerOnet Revealed

Due to a visit to Blues News a Doom 3 engine (Doom 3, RoE, Quake 4, Prey) mod was revealed that is called zerOnet which makes the network side of things more efficient.zerOnet is a small modification to games that use the Doom3 engine which cuts game-side network traffic down by an average of 50 percent. System-side network code can't be changed with game SDK's, so the reduction only applies to the game "snapshot" message sizes. The new snapshot sizes range from 10% to 90% of their original size without changing any of the original code's reading/writing data, all the bit sizes are the same and no functions have been swapped with smaller versions (eg "WriteShort" instead of "WriteLong"). Check out Zeronet.

On Doom Wad Station Bob Larkin has added an in game videos for Daleks and Space Loons, both of which are for Wolf3D. Furthermore there's a review for a Doom 2, singleplayer map that's called Red King.In fact, I got stumped in one area and decided to just jump over some walls to get to the next thing...though I don't think that was what the mapper intended (whoops..). That stuff is all on Doom Wad Station.

I never thought anybody would actually want Doom 3 to be darker than it was originally but it appears that Dafama2K7 has released a mod called D3 In The Dark (V-1.1), which... just read the desricption:This is version 1.1 of the mod that takes away all lights from the game with the exception of the alternative lights (fire, muzzle flashes, etc.) and some randomly scattered swinglights and desk lamps. If you really want to test your skill, give this a try! Enjoy! There's also a Ressurection of Evil version --> D3 In The Dark (V-1.1-RoE). Yeah Doom 3 Files.

Here is what the IC team has to say about their project: Into Cerberon is a mod for Doom 3 that will bring the six-degrees-of-freedom action of the classic FPS game series Descent into the high-powered graphics engine of Doom 3. ReX posted an update on Doom Nexus yesterday and he's been naughty (this is what's he's saying) due to being sinful in working on his Return From Oblivion (a Team TNT Projectile) level. For now, be content in the knowledge that the Day of Reckoning draws nigh (aka release of RFO approacheth). Furthermore ReX has some words on Espi's map for RFO, which you can read in his latest update. There's some other stuff on there as well, so best you can do is go forth and read what's happening on Doom Nexus.

I was on this Odamex site and didn't realise it was Doom related at first but apparently it's a multiplayer port for Doom. Unfortunately my internet connection is screwy and pages aren't loading, so it took me awhile just to grab this quote:Odamex is a free and open source port for the classic first-person-shooter Doom. Odamex's goal is to emulate the feel of and retain many aspects of the original Doom executables while offering a broader expanse of security features, personal configuration, gameplay options, and editing features. Odamex can run on a wide range of operating systems and hardware, so players should be able to play on almost any platform! If you want to learn more, explore the site. I'm gonna go read or something...

sfmaestre released his D3Full Shadows ((RoE Only)) mod. I guess this explains what it does:This mod makes Doom3 do all lights with full shadows in the maps of the singleplayer ROE Expansion pack. Now, all lights will have shadows..., from a simple led to the lights of Mars surface !!! This roe only version is not for the users that download it the previous versions because is the same, only this time i will include only the modified ROE maps with full shadows. Take a look at that on Doom 3 Files.

Over on Map Factory there's a Doom 3, singleplayer level that's called X1 Docking Station by level designer mrlycon. This is my first attempt to do a Doom3 SP map. The map is set at the basement of a spaceship docking station, the map is FAR from done, it was suppose to be alot more but it never happened. You start in an elevator on your way down to the docks and you have to fight your way all through the power core and through the sewers (the map isn't done, so after the sewers the map ends), the info computer gui that tell's you the code for the locked doors is all made by me, the art and the code, and you have to find this computer to unlock the door, it's not very well hidden tho. Check out that X1 Docking Station level. Hopefully the dude will finish the map as he says it's not finished.

So once more I was looking at Doom sites and I jumped onto Realm 667 where Tormentor667 posted 2 days in a row with the news that he's getting Christmas fever which is apparent when you visit his main page. Also his computer is slowly killing itself, there's 3 ecards on his site (I didn't see them myself), some stuff about a ficticious Alternative Rock Festival and Hip Hop was mentioned and some other things. So where is the Doom stuff you might be wondering.... well Tormentor is a Doomer so there. You try finding Doom related news everyday and see how long you last. I'm off to play some Guild Wars: Nightfall and that has nothing to do with Doom either. haahaa.

The author of the Phantasm mod for Doom3 sent Bob Larkin of the Doom Wad Station, the latest version of the mod. Here is an excerpt from his partial review of the mod (he's not done yet). This is absolutely awesome. Not only is the detail incredible, as well as the authors devotion to replicating the environment of the movie but the gameplay is excellent. The balls pop up and you better be ready to shoot. The Tall Man even makes an appearance in the first level. MAN, did it feel good shooting THAT bastard! I have JUST gotten to map2 (Home) and there is my ride, waiting and ready for action! Check out the Phantasm TC. Also note that Bob Larkin has done a review for a Quake 4 level and you can read about that on our Raven-Games site, where I keep the news posted on Raven Software related stuffs.
